too much work to replace it before our next release.
- Bugfixes and small improvements continue

## Health report:

Development is slow but steady. Moving forge-allura.a.o to new hardware has
forced us to re-do some configuration, but will give us a nice example to
share of how to setup & configure Allura for production.

21 Jun 2017 [Dave Brondsema / Rich]

## Description:

Apache Allura is an open source implementation of a software forge, a web site
that manages source code repositories, bug reports, discussions, wiki pages,
blogs, and more for any number of individual projects.

## Issues:

- No issues needing board attention.

## Activity:

- Two new contributors: students interested in GSOC made several contributions
- Other development has continued to be mostly quiet, but still proceeding
with bugfixes mostly

## Health report:

As mentioned, development is a bit slower, but was good to see students
interested in GSOC. Unfortunately they weren't accepted
but it still was a good experience for them & us for the time they were
learning about Allura, writing proposals, and making some contributions.

We should make our next release soon.

blogs, and more for any number of individual projects.

## Issues:

## Activity:

- Development has been quieter this past quarter, but still moving along
(security fix, small features added, some fixes, etc)
- Kenton Taylor added to PMC
- A few users with questions, and some potential GSOC students starting to get
  involved already

## Health report:

As mentioned, development is a bit slower, main contributors have been working
on other projects, but that's not expected to be permanent. Still good health
in terms of adding a PMC member and seeing GSOC activity already.

## Description:

Apache Allura is an open source implementation of a software forge, a web site
that manages source code repositories, bug reports, discussions, wiki pages,
blogs, and more for any number of individual projects.

## Issues:

- No issues needing board attention.

## Activity:

- Made a 1.5.0 release
- GSOC program completed with good contributions, and results published on our
website

## Health report:

Last board report we had this comment:
mt: Looking at the archives, activity seems to have dropped off
significantly around Feb/Mar 2016. Is there a particular reason
for this drop-off? Does the PMC think it is temporary or
permanent?

There have been shifts in active project members, we have less developers who
do Allura development as a significant portion of their day job. We do have
new committers too though. And some communication ended up on IRC or on merge
requests moreso than on the dev@ list, which also affected list archive
stats. (We have filed a feature ticket to be able to have Allura merge
request comments go to a mailing list)

Overall I think Allura is doing ok, since we are adding new committers and
making releases, but the development pace has slowed a little bit, and it
would be good to continue to grow our community.

## PMC changes:

- Currently 13 PMC members.
- Roberto Galoppini resigned Jun 23 2016
- Rohan Verma was added to the PMC on Jul 26 2016

## Committer base changes:

though.

18 Dec 2013

Forge software for the development of software projects, including source
control systems, issue tracking, discussion, wiki, and other software
project management tools.

Allura has been incubating since 2012-06-25.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Continue to grow community
 2. Make another release
 3. Move project development to ASF hardware

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

It was difficult to get responses from IPMC and our mentors, for our first
release. It finally did get the needed responses and votes, and the IPMC
has been discussing general improvements in this area, which is good.

How has the community developed since the last report?

Several new folks on the mailing list have been asking questions about
setup and configuration of Allura. A few contributions by Rui Ferreira
have been submitted through the tracker but not merged yet.

How has the project developed since the last report?

Our legal/notice files were finalized and we made our first release. Many
fixes & features have been added, primarily regarding importing projects
 from other sites into Allura.

Forge software for the development of software projects, including source
control systems, issue tracking, discussion, wiki, and other software project
management tools.

Allura has been incubating since 2012-06-25.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Streamline release process (including voting)
 2. Continue to grow community
 3. Move project development to ASF hardware

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

 No.

How has the community developed since the last report?

A merge request from long ago was improved and merged. Daniel Hinojosa,
SourceForge Community manager, introduced himself and a flyer he is working
on to promote Allura. A few emails on the users list. All other commit
and email activity has been from existing PPMC members.

Developers from SourceForge continue to move their internal discussions to
public forums when possible. Ticket updates now go to the mailing list, and
more discussions and sharing of plans are occurring on the mailing list and
 IRC.

How has the project developed since the last report?

First release has been created and approved by PPMC, after a few weeks of
tweaks and voting. It is now pending IPMC approval. Infra has helped us
get https://forge-allura.apache.org/ up, so we will be able to migrate our
 wiki, tickets, etc. to it.

Allura has gained an import infrastructure, bulk export, wiki macros for
youtube and gittip, more extension points, SCM log view and API
improvements and a variety of other assorted fixes & improvements.

Date of last release:

As of Sep 3, our first release is pending IPMC votes.

 2. Move project development to ASF hardware
 3. Continue to remove non-AL code from the repo

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

 No issues at this time

How has the community developed since the last report?

 1. Lots of contributions from Stefano Invernizzi and Simone Gatti.
 2. Small patch received from SourceForge user 'honyczek'. No other
 new contributors.
 3. Some new faces on IRC and the mailing list.
 4. Professor mentoring Stefano and Simone has expressed willingness
to recruit more students to work on Allura.

How has the project developed since the last report?

 1. Allura instance set up at http://allura-vm.apache.org/ but nothing
 moved to it yet.
Need to finish setup and address any problems before moving
    development to the new vm.

 2. GPL code made optional. Licensing review by Peter shows that only one
Creative Commons javascript library needs to be addressed. LICENSE
and NOTICE files created. Still need to apply Apache License header to
    all files.

Commit activity & mailing list traffic look good. I see that there
are license issues that the podling has been dealing with, specifically
removing non AL code. I am looking forward to seeing discussions about
making a release in the near future.

19 Dec 2012

Allura is forge software for the development of software projects, including
source control systems, issue tracking, discussion, wiki, and other software
project management tools.

Allura has been incubating since June 2012.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Grow the community
 2. Move project development to ASF hardware
 3. Continue to remove non-AL code from the repo

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of?

 No issues at this time

How has the community developed since the last report?

We have invited three new members to the PPMC - Alvaro del Castillo, Peter
Hartmann, and Stefano Invernizzi. With their addition, 5 out of 8 of the
committers are employees of SourceForge. Additional contributions from yet
another person, Jon Schewe, have been received also (pending merge).

Primary development has moved from the SourceForge git repo to the Apache
 git repo.

How has the project developed since the last report?

Work is in progress to remove GPLed code from the distribution, and making
it an external dependency, moving us closer to having code that we can
 release under the Apache License.

A report of the project's activity can be see at
 http://bitergia.com/public/previews/allura/2012_12_allura/ which was
generated using code that is in the process of being moved into the Allura
git repo from Bitergia, the employer of one of our new PPMC members.

Name search has been concluded and approved.

Meanwhile, code commits have been steady and mailing list traffic has been
 moderate.

Allura has been incubating since June 2012.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Move project development to ASF hardware
 2. Grow the community
 3. Verify distribution rights, esp. with regard to dependencies' licenses

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of?

 No issues at this time

How has the community developed since the last report?

We have had several introductions and discussions among developers and users
on the allura mailing list. We received and merged two patches from a
contributor (who isn't a committer). The Bloodhound podling is in a similar
domain as Allura, so we have had some cross-list emails.

How has the project developed since the last report?

All active committers have submitted CLAs and have accounts created. The
software grant for Allura has been submitted. On the mailing list, several
licensing questions have been discussed and resolved how to handle: external
contributions, handling of a non-essential GPL library, and handling of our
ForgeHg tool which has a dependency on the GPL'd mercurial library.

A list of the three most important issues to address in the move
towards graduation

 1. Move project development to ASF hardware
 2. Grow the community
 3. Get the necessary paperwork (CLAs and software grant) submitted

How has the community developed since the last report?

We had a BOF at OSCON, which was attended by 8 people, 4 of whom were new to
the community and have expressed interest in participating and have joined
the
mailing lists. Other people at OSCON have expressed interest in the project,
and we hope to see them join the lists soon.

We have also had some offers of contribution from people at Bitergia who are
interested in contributing the work that they have done around metrics.
which
was a very encouraging start to growing the community.

How has the project developed since the last report?

This is our first report, as we have just begun the incubation process.
Infra has set up our mailing lists, and discussions have started. Also,
since we will be self-hosted, Infra has created a VM for us, and we are
in the process of installing Allura on that VM. We are also in the process
of getting CLAs for all of our initial committers, and reaching out to
anyone outside of the initial team for additional participants on the
project.

Allura only got its mailing lists a couple of hours ago. There is nothing
more to report yet.
