Activity: Release 0.9.9 is nearly ready, just waiting on a few fixes. ## Community Health: APE was adopted but is still a fledgling and needs to gain more mindshare. APE 2 (Query Plan Cache) is under review. APE 3 (Fixed Point recursion operator for Hyracks) is under review. APE 4 (COPY TO statement) is implemented. APE 5 (Change COPY FROM syntax) is implemented. APE 6 (Compute-Storage Separation (Cloud Mode Deployment)) is in progress. The convention of tying fixes/features to JIRA entities has become more consistent over time. reviews is considered to be resolved.
The current workflow ensures that
a) The ASF git repository is the canonical repository for the project.
b) Only committers can manually commit changes to the ASF git
repository.
c) All discussions on the Gerrit instance are sent to
notifications@asterixdb.incubator.apache.org.
While it would be good to also have the Gerrit instance run on ASF
hardware, this is neither necessary to document the provenance of the
code nor to enable list members to follow and participate in the
activities of the project. Also, there seems to be no infra capacity
to provide a Gerrit service.
How has the community developed since the last report?
- A paper on AsterixDB was presented at VLDB'15.
- A deep-dive introduction to AsterixDB was given at the first
workshop on Big Data Open Source Systems (BOSS'15).
- Chris Hillery was added as a committer on Oct 20.
- Increased traffic on the users list.

- All Google Code issues were migrated to the ASF JIRA and triaged.

1. The most urgent issue right now is to migrate the issues from the
Google Code tracker to the ASF JIRA (INFRA-9954) as Google Code turns
read-only on Aug 24. The issue was open with sporadic activity for
some time. Recently, the frequency of the interactions with infra has
increased significantly (thanks!), but the problem is not solved yet.
2. There was a discussion on the use of a Gerrit instance hosted at UCI
for code reviews in this project. After an initial assumption that this
was contrary to Apache policy and the subsequent
a) clarification on how Gerrit is being used (every AsterixDB commit is
explicitly made by a committer to the ASF git repo - not by Gerrit),
b) configuration of Gerrit that all notifications are sent the the
project's mailing list, and
c) addition of a step at Gerrit account creation that requires that an
ICLA is on file at the ASF
the current state of the discussion is that this is
a) not contrary to policy but also
b) not ideal as the regular workflow depends on non-ASF resources.
Ideally the code review tool would be hosted by infra, but capacity is
an issue.
