Apache Bahir provides extensions to distributed analytic platforms such as
Apache Spark and Apache Flink. Currently, Bahir provides extensions to
multiple distributed analytic platforms, extending their reach with a
diversity of streaming connectors and SQL data sources.

Community Activity:

Apache Bahir community has been actively working on supporting and enhancing
previously available Apache Spark extensions and also creating new ones such
as the new extensions for Apache CounchDB/Cloudant, Akka, Google Cloud
Pub/Sub. The community is also actively keeping up with the Apache Spark
release cadence, aiming to provide compatible releases with the minimum time
interval.

Apache Bahir has also integrated various extensions for Apache Flink
analytical platform.  Currently, the following extensions are available in
Apache Bahir for Flink: ActiveMQ, Akka, Flume, Netty, and Redis; and they
have recently performed their first release.

Also, based on some internal discussions/feedback, the Apache Bahir PMC has
sent an e-mail to all the Spark Committers that were listed in the original
Apache Bahir proposal given them the Ability to reply with any concerns that
they might have. The PMC will report if it hears anything but after a few
days, we have not received any feedback.

Apache Bahir community has been actively working on supporting and enhancing
previously available Apache Spark extensions and also creating new ones such
as the new structured streaming extension for MQTT.

The Apache Flink community has approached the Apache Bahir community and the
two are now maintaining Apache Flink extensions in the context of Apache Bahir
project. The following extensions have now been migrated to Apache Bahir :
ActiveMQ, Flume and Redis connectors, and a couple more are under review as
GitHub PRs.

The Apache Bahir is finalizing a new 2.0.2 release based on Apache Spark
2.0.2.

The community has recently contributed a new structured streaming extension for MQTT.

The Apache Flink project has reached out to the Bahir mailing list and discussions are
under way to have Flink extensions being developed at Bahir.

The Apache Bahir 2.0.0 release has just been approved and it provides support for Apache Spark 2.0.0.

Apache Bahir provides extensions to distributed analytic platforms such as
Apache Spark.

Community Activity:
Apache Bahir was created on on 18/05/2016 and has just finished up setting
up the  project infrastructure. Seeding code has been imported from Apache
Spark hash 8301fadd8 and we are discussing/start working on a release based
on Apache Spark 2.0.0-preview release.

Issues:
There were two questions related to PMC/Committership related to inclusion in
the project initial roster which were discussed on the private mailing list
and seems to be ok now.

Establish the Apache Bahir Project

 WHEREAS, the Board of Directors deems it to be in the best interests
 of the Foundation and consistent with the Foundation's purpose to
 establish a Project Management Committee charged with the creation and
 maintenance of open-source software, for distribution at no charge to
 the Public, related to extensions to distributed analytic platforms

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that a Project Management Committee
 (PMC), to be known as the "Apache Bahir Project", be and hereby is
 established pursuant to Bylaws of the Foundation; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the Apache Bahir Project be and hereby is responsible
 for the creation and maintenance of software related to extensions to
 distributed analytics platforms; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the office of "Vice President, Apache Bahir" be and
 hereby is created, the person holding such office to serve at the
 direction of the Board of Directors as the chair of the Apache Bahir
 Project, and to have primary responsibility for management of the
 projects within the scope of responsibility of the Apache Bahir
 Project; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the persons listed immediately below be and hereby are
 appointed to serve as the initial members of the Apache Bahir Project:

 - Luciano Resende (lresende AT apache DOT org)
 - Chris Mattmann (mattmann  AT apache DOT org)
 - Steve Loughran (stevel AT apache DOT org)
 - Jean-Baptiste Onofré (jbonofre  AT apache DOT org)

 accordance with and subject to the direction of the Board of Directors
 and the Bylaws of the Foundation until death, resignation, retirement,
 removal or disqualification, or until a successor is appointed.

 Special Order 7B, Establish the Apache Bahir Project, was approved by Unanimous
 Vote of the directors present.
