Currently, it's the winter holiday now in China. team will be back at Feb, 20th. We will continue to organize code and then update svn repos.
BlueSky did not report. There is considerble discussion on the -dev list. Not much in the way of commits, but it does appear from the -dev list chatter that they are starting to grow the community a bit. The growth of on-list discussion may be a good sign.

BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. The team is improving RealClass -- one of the two major subsystems of BlueSky -- meanwhile we will discuss the next version of RealClass which would related to web browser. * committed QT version of Tserver; next step: * To cut down the code quantity, replace Tserver with QT's lib, especially the communication part; * Gradually commit the source code of modified DTU/Teacher/Student; * Discuss the next version of RealClass;
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. The Summer vacation ranges from July-September, a brand new semester has begun, meanwhile some developers graduated and some fresh developers come. We used to develop RealClass with Anjuta which generates many useless files both hard to maintain and probably violate ASL. I've convey my opinion in dev list and tried to transplant Tserver to QT, and it works and cost me little time. Some of the developers are also interesting in it, we will discuss the next step in dev mailing list. *transplant Tserver's interface from GTK to QT; *Test QT version Tserver and found out it works well; next step: * Discuss starting a branch of transplanting RealClass on dev mailing list. * Gradually transplant and commit source code.
Did not report, but has reported several months running. The only activity observed is the following e-mail: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-bluesky-dev/201008.mbox/% 3CAANLkTi=NAfBWOofuU1fAXKxYxAiQf2rAt5ZQDcL1p6=f@mail.gmail.com%3E
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Recently, developer NanHongzhen had committed the IPv6 and Satellite patch of RealClass in BlueSky jira. I've download the modules and tested them(only IPv6 module,'cause i don't have an environment with satellite.). It functions but those files are not well organized and probably not legal in certain config files. I need to clean the files first and then commit them to repos. * accept IPv6 and Satellite patch of RealClass; next step: * clean IPV6 and Satellite module source files. * commit IPV6 and Satellite module to repos.

BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Recently, we've passed RealClass (Ed: RealClass is an implementation of one of BlueSky's key directives) release vote in dev mailing list. Now, we are waiting for Bill to check the completeness of the release candidate. Also we are considering to add more feature in the next version of RealClass. The following will be included in the new features. * optimize DTU structure; * support IPv6 and satellite; The coding of IPv6 and satellite module has been finished. But we need some time to test the functionality and robustness of the module. After that we would commit that as new version.
Did not report. The students are just back from vacation, and there was some discussion of moving them back to a quarterly schedule. We'll ask for an April report.
*** DID NOT REPORT *** The project did, however, report last month in January, and there appears to have been little traffic in the interim. There have been zero commits in February, 4 commits in January, and 10 in December. The last big batch was in November: 107. Likewise, there have been zero e-mails in February, 16 in January, 45 in December.
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Last month we tried to pack the release candidate package and place it at http://people.apache.org/~mabowen/. However, we made some mistakes when producing the package, first, a improper version number, second, forget to start a release audit before making the release candidate package. These faults are the things we'd restore the next step as soon as possible. top 2 or 3 to resolve prior to graduation: * Complete the release audit and clarify the last legal issues; * Revise the release version number and repack the release candidate; * Start a new round of release vote at bluesky dev-mailing list;
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. What we've completed in the last month: * last round check of first release preparation, e.g., legal issues of compile scripts; * all the scripts and documents are committed, official website was updated correspondingly; * Announced the first round vote of release of RealClass of BlueSky, but failed due to deficiency of understanding release procedure; top 2 or 3 to resolve prior to graduation: * According to the opinions on RealClass@BlueSky first release which reverberate from dev-mailing list, we'd improve and start the release vote as soon as possible; * Once the first release is made, we'd move fast to the next version's transferring on the base of our prototype; * Community development is always under concern though it is not realized because of some complex reasons. However, i'd be sure we could do better when the development of the next version is on its way;
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. What we've completed in the last month: * Instead of using ARTS, we replace it simply by basic soundcard write method; * Solve all the legal issues lies in RealClass system and upload whole source code of the four components to Apache SVN repos; * update the incubation status page: http://incubator.apache.org/projects/bluesky.html? BlueSky wiki:http://wiki.apache.org/incubator/BlueSky/ BlueSky official website: http://incubator.apache.org/bluesky/ * Remove Hibernate module from MersMp system; top 2 or 3 to resolve prior to first release: * Use doxygen to generate API documents of RealClass system * Replace Hibernate module with other library compatible with ASL
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Things are getting better in the last month. First, some critical legal issues which bothers us long time like FFmpeg are solved. Also, we deleted 1394dv support for legal problem, but we believe that would not affect the functionalities. Currently, the only legal issue is ARTS/OSS, and we've already replaced ARTS with SDL, however, it needs sometime to make the whole system run successfully. And we would use ALSA compiled in LGPL way to replace OSS. There are some other good news too. More developers are joining the mailing list and a core team, i believe, is gradually establishing in XJTU. We now aims to the first release and next step we will try to attract more developers on bulletin board system at XJTU to contribute to the future version of RealClass. Plus, MERSMP team, which is in charge of the developing of MERSMP system, now join the dev-mailing list. Together with MERSMP team, we believe that we could make much more achievement in the future. And we still need the committer account so that we commit recent changes of website?code etc. Hope the accounts could be approved soon. the inactive committer account: 1.okid a.k.a Dong Yang 2.stellagjj a.k.a JingJing Gao 3.zhangfan a.k.a Fan Zhang and the new committers would be: 1.mabowen a.k.a Samuel Kevin 2.chenping a.k.a Arthur Chen top 2 or 3 to resolve prior to first release: * Replace ARTS with SDL and make the system work; * Complete the information about BlueSky on wiki and official website; * As to MERSMP team, they need sometime to get used to the Apache way;
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Summer vacation started from last month, but some members of the team are still working. We've started to replace FFmpeg with Theora and Vorbis which might takes 1-2months. Simultaneously, we would prepare preliminary work of the Release of BlueSky. *Replace FFmpeg and commit. *Prepare to release. Bill Stoddard comments that "we are in the early stages of effectively 'rebooting' the Bluesky project after the recent incident involving sharing of an individuals user id. Inactive members of the community will have their id's revoked and the mentors are considering options for restarting the project with a new set of project committers. "
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. During the past month, we've been still focusing on replacing FFmpeg and I forecast pretty progress in the next two months. A huge mistake, which we, shamefully, hadn't noticed all along, had been found out. It surely is acceptable to our group, but it violates the rules of Apache. We are planning to apply for more committers and accounts to correct this mistake. Next step: replacing FFmpeg
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Finally we committed our source code, though part of the source code, to SVN repository. Now the most urgent things for us is to replace FFmpeg with Theora and Vorbis. We've started to learn Theora and Vorbis but not too much progress were gained. Another bad news is that we are now severely short of hands. Some students are gonna graduate in days. Thus we have to enroll some undergraduate students to our lab. We've already got one and he is now getting familiar with our system. I hope that his participation would help. Next step: *Continue to learn Theora and Vorbis, try to replace FFmpeg soon;
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Recent Activity: After we finished the second code view, we finally filled up IP Clearance, though wo miss something and had to filled it again, and sent it to ASF. We have kept on learning Theora and Vorbis, however, little had us achieved. We have sent a mail to Theora community to call for their help. We wish that good news would come soon. *Examine through the source code to make sure everything is OK before we upload it to SVN repository. *Commit source code to SVN repository after the last check. *Continue to learn Theora and Vorbis.
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Recent Activity: We finished the required work by Bill, our mentor. We'd tried to use Dirac for replacing FFmpeg, while we were waiting for the results of second code view. However, some problems happened and could be resolved. Reading api of FFmpeg and vobis?theora is still undergoing. The reason, why it is retarded, is that we had to do several projects simultaneously, besides the classes. The running demo of Bluesky is postponed too, but i can assure that it would be completed next week, after i finish the coding task this week. Next step: *Waiting for the second code view results. *Recording Bluesky running demo. *Tried to work out a reliable sketch of replacing FFmpeg in two weeks.
Bluesky failed to report. Reviewing their mailing list, there is activity in the project, just no report.
BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. Recent Activity: * Feb Update: Clean room version of the Bluesky code has been reviewed by Bill Stoddard (project mentor). * Jan Status: It is nearly the end of this semester. We were busy preparing and taking exams in the past month. So no further progress could we make. We sent our clean version code our mentor, and are waiting for his reverberation. Next Steps: * Consider replacement of FFmpeg. We believe that the clean version of our code should be available under ASL. Thus we are considering the cost of using Theora. * Submit Bluesky code grant to ASF. Perform final code review, cleanup then check the code into the svn repository. * Begin working on formal release of Bluesky

BlueSky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. In the past month, we set up the website and applied for a new international ip address. Here is the website link: http://202.117.16.249. We've already put three version of source code, including complete version, clean version with project files (the project files are autogenerated by Anjuta, in case it may violate ASL, we divide the source code into two types, with or without project files) and purely clean version. We hope that someone could double check the legality of the clean source code so we can upload the source code soon. Top priorities: * upload our source code to SVN repository. As soon as the code is granted by Apache community, this thing shoulde be finished quite soon. IPMC comments: * jukka: Why the new server and web site? I don't seem to be able to access it (I'm in Switzerland). * clr: What does it mean "as soon as the code is granted by Apache community"?
Bluesky has been incubating since 01-12-2008. It is an e-learning solution designed to help solve the disparity in availability of qualified education between well-developed cities and poorer regions of China. During the past month, we finally clear the legal problem lay in our source code. Agreement achieved that the libstdc++ don't collide with ASL, however, FFMPEG is absolutely vetoed under ASL. So we have to find a subsitute to replace it. Students of the bluesky team@XJTU are either busy cramming for exams or painstaking coding for an original system. Thus the work at Apache has been greatly delayed. But we still complete several critical things. The first is to eleminate the code which violates ASL from the Bluesky source code. Secondly, we renewed the user manual. Hope it will facilitate people who wanna try our software. Top priorities: *upload our source code to SVN repository. In order to ensure the qualification of our source code under ASL, we will, soon, put our "cleansing version" code on our website@XJTU.China and hope people at Apache community to have a double examination. After that we will commit our code to SVN. *Another emergency is to replace FFMPEG. FFMPEG plays a critical role in our software. If proper subsititute can't be found, the progress of our incubating at Apache will be delayed to a large extent.
Now, BlueSky ASF Project is running in the first phase. A lot of efforts are done to legalize the BlueSky source code under Apache licence. For RealClass system source code, there are three main third-part libraries whose licences do not comply with ASL definitely. They are GUN c++ stl, arts and ffmpeg. The issue that dynamic link with GPLed GUN c++ stl in RealClass system source code is legal or not have been discussing in bluesky mailing list. The conflict which the other two libraries lead to are so complicated that more time is spent and discuss in details to resolve this problem. Besides ,we do the following: * In order to introduce RealClass system's functions, feature and usage, we supply the document about system customer manual to BlueSky website. * Due to conflict with ASL, the work of committing the source code is behind of the schedule. = Empire-DB = Empire-db has been accepted to the incubator in July 2008. While ths SVN repository had soon been set up and development progressed there has until now not been an official Apache release with the packages containting the org.apache namespace and with all legal files available and in the right place. Recent activity: The main concern of the Empire-db committers in the previous month has been the acceptance of the first official Apache release by members of the incubator PMC. Due to legal concerns about the inclusion of two .jar files the distribution was first changed to go without them which however resulted in compilation problems with the build files provided. After a long discussion period the two jars which were taken from a Tomcat distribution where included again and release candidate 2 of Empire-db 2.0.4 and Struts2-extentions 1.0.4 were again put up for voting. Finally the release got accepted incubator PMC. The accepted distribution files will now be offered for download from the Empire-db website. (Yet to be done) Meanwhile a few improvement and bufixing tasks have already been opened for the upcoming 2.0.5 release. Community aspects: Slowly the empire-user mailing list is getting used by uses not belonging to the empire-db development team. A few mail requests have been answered. With the now accepted official Apache release we hope that we can now further increase the community.
Did not report. From the developer mailing list, we have the following status comments: - Two modules of the project,that is DTU and Tserver, have been modified by using stlport to replace gpl based c++ code expected for some minor mistakes. - The official website has been updated and formal reports are added. - We strive hard to learn the related contents of how to incubate successfully.
Did not report, but see general comments at top of report.
