Blur

27 Feb 2017

Blur is a search platform capable of searching massive amounts of data
in a cloud computing environment.

Blur has been incubating since 2012-07-24.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

  1. Greater community involvement.
  2. Produce releases.
  3.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware
of?

Lack of community involvement has brought the topic of retirement to the
  blur-dev list.

  http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-blur-dev/201702.mbox/%3Cpony-4f6911432c0e56d59d8abe5b65087e9956a6af1e-bfe4bfa9a663176fde9c80c2d11c9dc3c6e81311%40blur-dev.incubator.apache.org%3E

We feel that the board should be aware of a potential retirement to the
  project.

Apache CarbonData is an indexed columnar data format for fast analytics on
big data platform, e.g.Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, etc.

CarbonData has been incubating since 2016-06-02.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

  1. Already finished 4 apache releases and all driven by different release
     managers.
  2. The community is growing well:
     a. There are more than 60+ contributors from different organizations,
        increasing the diversity.
     b. Increased mailing list activity, the solutions be discussed by
mailing list and users can get efficient helps to quickly solve
        their issues by mailing list
  3. Finish all INFRA built: github, CI, website, Cwiki and so on.

We think we are very close to the graduation and we are focused on the
  last steps for the graduation.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

  None

How has the community developed since the last report?

How has the project developed since the last report?

We have two main efforts going on over the past quarter: 1) we've made
numerous improvements to stabilize the original platform at really
large scale. 2) we've been refining the ideas around the new major
feature - which will introduce a new abstraction in distributed search
- mentioned in our previous report.

We're pleased to have seen some new folks show up and contribute bug
reports and patches.

Blur is a search platform capable of searching massive amounts of data

Blur has been incubating since 2012-07-24.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Official IP sign off
   - Near Infinity signed CCLA and Blur Software Grant in July of 2012
   - All committers have submitted ICLA's in July/August of 2012
   - So I believe that an official vote is all that is needed.
 2. First Apache release which is dependent on #1
   - The biggest reason this has been delayed is due to several major code
refactors to make use of Blur faster and easier
 3. Community growth, Blur needs to grow beyond the initial set of committors.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of?

 No.

developers the update only took a couple of weeks before tests were
