## Description: The mission of Curator is the creation and maintenance of software related to Java libraries that make using Apache ZooKeeper easier ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention. ## Membership Data: Apache Curator was founded 2013-09-18 (7 years ago) There are currently 15 committers and 15 PMC members in this project. The Committer-to-PMC ratio is 1:1. Community changes, past quarter: - Enrico Olivelli was added to the PMC on 2020-06-11 - Zili Chen was added to the PMC on 2020-08-06 - Enrico Olivelli was added as committer on 2020-06-11 - Zili Chen was added as committer on 2020-08-06 ## Project Activity: Recent releases: Apache Curator 5.1.0 was released on 2020-07-03. Apache Curator 5.0.0 was released on 2020-05-28. Apache Curator 4.3.0 was released on 2020-02-29. ## Community Health: We added two new committers and PMC members recently. The code base is pretty stable. We recently released a new major release and we see users that are migrating to the new version asking questions on the mailing list. We started a slack channel on ASF workspace, used especially for committers for fast interactive communications.
## Description: The mission of Curator is the creation and maintenance of software related to Java libraries that make using Apache ZooKeeper easier ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention. ## Membership Data: Apache Curator was founded 2013-09-17 (7 years ago) There are currently 13 committers and 13 PMC members in this project. The Committer-to-PMC ratio is 1:1. Community changes, past quarter: - No new PMC members. Last addition was Shay Shimony on 2019-04-17. - No new committers. Last addition was Shay Shimony on 2019-04-18. ## Recent Releases - Apache Curator 5.0.0 was released on 2020-05-28 ## Project Activity: - We had a major release last week - We are currently voting on a new PMC/committer ## Community Health: While I still think the Curator community is healthy I was disappointed by the lack of engagement recently with an important issue with Curator (see thread here: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/curator-dev/202005.mbox/%3cE5511DF7-06EB-43B9-851E-E08FCDA8A204@jordanzimmerman.com%3e). I tried to get engagement as hard as I could - email, Slack, cross-posting to ZooKeeper, Twitter - still only the 3 active Curator committers responded. I don't know what to do about this. I know that Curator is used throughout the Tech industry - why don't they take more interest in it? I don't know.
## Description: The mission of Curator is the creation and maintenance of software related to Java libraries that make using Apache ZooKeeper easier ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention. ## Membership Data: Apache Curator was founded 2013-09-17 (6 years ago) There are currently 13 committers and 13 PMC members in this project. Last addition was Shay Shimony on 2019-04-18. ## Project Activity: - Interest in Curator has increased recently matching the increased activity from new committers in ZooKeeper. - We have two new releases planned: - 4.3.0 is a bug fix release being voted on right now and will hopefully be released soon - A possible 5.0.0 is being worked on to make Curator compatible with the upcoming 3.6.0 release of ZooKeeper - The Curator team is working on a number of things: - Some important bug fixes were merged from the community for 4.3.0 - Refactoring and removing a bunch of cruft/tech debt for upcoming 5.0.0 - Added new features to support corresponding ZooKeeper 3.6.0 features ## Recent Releases - Apache Curator 4.2.0 was released on 2019-03-06. - Apache Curator 4.3.0 is being voted on right now and will be released as soon as the community accepts this version - We have plans for Curator 5.0.0 sometime in 2020 ## Community Health: Curator is healthier than it has been in a while. We now have 3 active committers who are engaged. We also get regular input from community members with bug reports, PRs, etc. We still need more active engagement from the community, however. Given how widely used Curator is it can be frustrating that there aren't more people active in the project. We continue to reach out in various forums: Apache Slack, email, Stackoverflow, etc.

Curator is preparing for the next major release of ZooKeeper and we have decent contributor activity in that regard. ## Community Health: Community activity is decent. We can always use more committers but the project is in use and healthy.

## Description: - The Apache Curator Java libraries make using Apache ZooKeeper much easier and more reliable. ## Issues: - Curator participated in the "help wanted" project. To date, we've not gotten any real help. People don't even bother to subscribe to the mailing list. It appears they are just fishing to see if they can pad their CVs. So, this isn't a Curator "issue" per se, but I thought I'd take this opportunity to report about it. ## Activity: - Curator activity is normal for this period - We continue to produce releases, field questions, etc. - We continue to track releases of Apache ZooKeeper and try to stay current with it ## Health report: - Curator is a healthy, active project. We have consistent, quality input from the community and Curator usage continues to grow. - I've learned that Facebook will be standardizing on Apache Curator as its primary ZooKeeper client - good news! - Curator's health is intimately tied to Apache ZooKeeper and, from our perspective, Apache ZooKeeper is a very healthy project - Curator could use 1 or 2 more active committers. A few individuals have been identified and, assuming they continue to contribute, votes can take place ## PMC changes: - Currently 11 PMC members. - No new PMC members added in the last 3 months - Last PMC addition was Mike Drob on Thu Jul 23 2015 ## Committer base changes: - Currently 11 committers. - No new committers added in the last 3 months - Last committer addition was Mike Drob at Fri Jul 24 2015 ## Releases: - Apache Curator 2.11.1 was released on Mon Nov 14 2016 - Apache Curator 3.2.1 was released on Mon Nov 14 2016 ## Mailing list activity: - dev@curator.apache.org: - 54 subscribers (up 1 in the last 3 months): - 336 emails sent to list (180 in previous quarter) - user@curator.apache.org: - 159 subscribers (up 2 in the last 3 months): - 94 emails sent to list (96 in previous quarter) ## JIRA activity: - 13 JIRA tickets created in the last 3 months - 9 JIRA tickets closed/resolved in the last 3 months

Please accept my apology for the tardiness of this report. The Apache Curator Java libraries make using Apache ZooKeeper much easier and more reliable. Community ========= The Curator community is active and healthy. We have regular and active participation on the mailing list, Jira and github. Adoption continues to grow. Notably: Apache Hive and Apache Yarn are now using Curator. Development =========== Since our last report Curator has had two successful releases by different build managers. Issues for board consideration ============================== None currently

The Apache Curator Java libraries make using Apache ZooKeeper much easier and more reliable. Community ========= * Since our last report Curator has added two new committers, Cameron MacKenzie and Scott Blum. They have both been very active and the project has benefited greatly from them. * Numerous online articles that mention Curator have been written: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CURATOR/Third+Party+Articles Development =========== * Several successful releases have occurred since the last report * Curator's adoption continues to grow: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CURATOR/Powered+By Issues for board consideration ============================== None currently
The Apache Curator Java libraries make using Apache ZooKeeper much easier and more reliable. Project Status =========== Since the last report, there have been several successful releases. 2.5.0 is the latest release. Community ======== The Curator community continues to grow. This is a good time to report on how Curator has been integrated in the larger ZooKeeper community. * Curator is a component in other open source projects including Apache Storm, Metamarkets Druid, Apache Drill, Apache Oozie, Apache Spark, Spring SD, and many, many more. * There have been dozens of articles written either about or mentioning Apache Curator. * According to Ohloh, there have been 11 contributors to the project Issues ===== In the last report, it was mentioned that Curator only has 1 active committer. I think this was a bit misleading. Curator has had no problems getting votes for releases. Many people contribute to the development of Curator. The main issue is that stewardship of Curator falls mainly on me (Jordan Zimmerman). The good news is that I've been mentoring others and am very close to getting at least one and possibly two more committers who will be active stewards of Curator. I hope to have this by the next report.
Project Status ============== * 2.4.1 maintenance released currently being voted on Community ========= * In the past 5 weeks 10 issues were resolved * Last release: 2.4.0 on Feb 8, 2014 * Curator switched to a Github mirror and will now take Pull Requests instead of patches Issues for board consideration ============================== * Curator continues to have only 1 active committer however patches/PRs are coming from a good number of unique active users
