Change the Apache Flume Project Chair

 WHEREAS, the Board of Directors heretofore appointed Arvind Prabhakar
 to the office of Vice President, Apache Flume, and

 WHEREAS, the Board of Directors is in receipt of the resignation of
 Arvind Prabhakar from the office of Vice President, Apache Flume, and

 WHEREAS, the Project Management Committee of the Apache Flume project
 has chosen to recommend Hari Shreedharan as the successor to the post;

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Arvind Prabhakar is relieved and
 discharged from the duties and responsibilities of the office of Vice
 President, Apache Flume, and

 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Hari Shreedharan be and hereby is
 appointed to the office of Vice President, Apache Flume, to serve in
 accordance with and subject to the direction of the Board of Directors
 and the Bylaws of the Foundation until death, resignation, retirement,
 removal or disqualification, or until a successor is appointed.

 Special Order 7F, Change the Apache Flume Project Chair, was
 approved by Unanimous Vote of the directors present.

DESCRIPTION

Apache Flume is a distributed, reliable, and available system for
efficiently collecting, aggregating, and moving large amounts of log
data to scalable data storage systems such as Apache Hadoop's HDFS.

RELEASES
* Flume version 1.2.0 was released on July 26 which provides many
new features and bug fixes over the previous release.
* No further releases are planned at this time.

CURRENT ACTIVITY
* Development activity continues as can be seen from the following report:
http://s.apache.org/eKz
* All post-graduation tasks have been completed. All the infrastructure
has been setup as a TLP including the website using the CMS, conforming
to the branding and infrastructure requirements.
* The project has adopted Git as the primary source control system.

COMMUNITY
* PMC Composition has not changed since the last report.
* Committer composition changed with Mubarak Seyed joining as a committer.
* A user-group meetup is being organized for the week of October 22 around
the time of Strata-Hadoop World conference in NY.
* Currently there are:
- Total of 117 subscribers to the developer list
- Total of 270 subscribers to the user list
- Total of 21 committers
- Total of 20 PMC members

ISSUES

* There are no issues requiring board attention at this time.

DESCRIPTION

Apache Flume is a distributed, reliable, and available system for
efficiently collecting, aggregating, and moving large amounts of log

RELEASES
* The last release of Apache Flume was version 1.1.0-incubating, released
 on March 27, 2012 while in Incubation.
* The release candidate for the upcoming release - version 1.2.0 is
 currently under vote.

CURRENT ACTIVITY
* Development activity continues as can be seen from the following report:

* Post-graduation tasks are under way with a majority of them completed
 already. Details at: http://s.apache.org/QNW

COMMUNITY

* PMC Composition has changed due to some PMC member changing affiliations.
 The current affiliations in the PMC stand at: Apple (1), Cloudera (13),
 CyberAgent (1), Independent (2), Intuit (2), WibiData (1).
* A Flume User Meetup was organized on June 13, in San Jose and was attended
 by 28 people.
* Currently there are:
- Total of 109 subscribers to the developer list
- Total of 261 subscribers to the user list
- Total of 20 committers
- Total of 20 PMC members

Establish the Apache Flume Project

 WHEREAS, the Board of Directors deems it to be in the best
 interests of the Foundation and consistent with the
 Foundation's purpose to establish a Project Management
 Committee charged with the creation and maintenance of
 open-source software related to a system for aggregating
 large amounts of log data on Apache Hadoop's HDFS and
 other scalable storage systems for distribution at no
 charge to the public.

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that a Project Management
 Committee (PMC), to be known as the "Apache Flume Project",
 be and hereby is established pursuant to Bylaws of the
 Foundation; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the Apache Flume Project be and hereby is
 responsible for the creation and maintenance of software
 related to  a system for aggregating large amounts of log
 data on Apache Hadoop's HDFS and other scalable storage
 systems; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the office of "Vice President, Apache Flume" be
 and hereby is created, the person holding such office to
 serve at the direction of the Board of Directors as the chair
 of the Apache Flume Project, and to have primary responsibility
 for management of the projects within the scope of
 responsibility of the Apache Flume Project; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the persons listed immediately below be and
 hereby are appointed to serve as the initial members of the
 Apache Flume Project:

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Arvind Prabhakar
 be appointed to the office of Vice President, Apache Flume, to
 serve in accordance with and subject to the direction of the
 Board of Directors and the Bylaws of the Foundation until
 death, resignation, retirement, removal or disqualification,
 or until a successor is appointed; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the initial Apache Flume PMC be and hereby is
 tasked with the creation of a set of bylaws intended to
 encourage open development and increased participation in the
 Apache Flume Project; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that the Apache Flume Project be and hereby
 is tasked with the migration and rationalization of the Apache
 Incubator Flume podling; and be it further

 RESOLVED, that all responsibilities pertaining to the Apache
 Incubator Flume podling encumbered upon the Apache Incubator
 Project are hereafter discharged.

 Special Order 7F, Establish the Apache Flume Project, was
 approved by Unanimous Vote of the directors present.

Flume entered incubation on June 12th, 2011.

Progress since last report

 - Move the active development branch - flume-728 to trunk: Completed.
 - Flume version 1.1.0-incubating released from trunk on March 27, 2012
 - Flume PPMC voted three new committers:
   Hari Shreedharan, Mike Percy and Will McQueen
 - Flume PPMC voted in a new PPMC member:
   Prasad Mujumdar
 - Development work going strong 146 issues resolved since last
   submitted report.
 - The flume-dev list has currently 103 subscribers with traffic
   of 3410 messages over last three months.
 - The flume-user list has currently 250 subscribes with traffic
   of 415 messages over last three months.
 - A Flume user meetup is being organized on June 13 in San Francisco
   Bay Area and has attendance to the planned capacity.

Progress on graduation:

 - Community vote: PASSED. Vote (1), Result (2)
 - Incubator PMC Vote: PASSED. Vote (3), Result (4)
 - During the community vote a concern was raised regarding whether
   the podling had sufficient diversity (5).
   - The Flume community worked with the mentors to reach consensus for
     resolving this issue.
   - The diversity requirement was clarified and helped resolve this
     concern (6)

Flume entered incubation on June 12th, 2011.

Progress since last report

 - Flume made it's first release from Incubator - version 1.0.0-incubating
   on January 4th, 2012.
 - Flume PPMC voted in three new committers from diverse organizations:
   Jarek Jarcec Cecho, Brock Noland, and Juhani Connolly.
 - Development work is going strong on flume-728 branch with over 50 issues
   fixed since the last submitted report.
 - The flume-dev list is vibrant with discussions around design and policy,
   with active participation from contributors and committers alike.

Issues before graduation

  - Move the active development branch - flume-728 to trunk.
  - Release a version from the trunk.

* Flume trademark inquiry has been resolved. Flume will retain its name as
an Apache project.
* Flume PPMC voted in two new committers - Prasad Mujumdar and Mingjie Lai
* Active development is going on in FLUME-728 branch.
 * FLUME-728 branch has gone through two milestones - "NG alpha 1" and "NG
alpha 2". A total of 50 issues have been fixed in these two milestone.
 * A release is being planned for 1.0.0-alpha-1 based on this branch.
* An inaugural Flume Meetup was held in New York on November 9, 2011 which
was attended by 40 users and developers.

* JIRA has been initialized for FLUME
* Confluence Wiki space has been created.
* Work on migrating JIRA information from Cloudera hosted JIRA instance to
Apache JIRA is underway.

* A Flume 0.9.4 release was made with the intention that it is the last
pre-Apache release of the Flume project.
