NMaven

19 Nov 2008

NMaven develops plugins and integration for Maven to make building and using
.NET languages a first-class citizen in Maven.

Incubating since: 2006-11-17

 * Slight increase in mailing list traffic
 * Work has progressed on helping to migrate the previous version to the
revised trunk
 * Discussion of another release
 * Started to set up a repository on the Maven central repository for .NET
artifacts
 * Presented a brief fast feather talk at ApacheCon, but didn't generate
additional interest
 * Very recent discussion on the future of the podling and it's dissolution

As noted, JvZ indicated to the Incubator that the NMaven community wish to
leave the ASF.

.NET languages a first-class citizen in Maven.

Incubating since: 2006-11-17

== Items to resolve before graduation ==

More active committer involvement. We have two active committers from
different organizations but need at least one more.

== Status ==

 * No releases since the last report
 * Continue to receive patches from the community, mostly for the previous
version
 * Mailing list traffic is steady

== Plans ==

Some work has been contributed for the migration of features to the current
trunk that are being reviewed. Work on this needs to continue.

Items to resolve before graduation
 * More active committer involvement. We have two active committers from
different organizations but need at least one more.

Status:
 * Voted on and did first release
 * Many more community patches are coming in.
 * Lost one mentor due to personal reasons.

Plans:
 * We lost a lot of features when we rewrote the code so the plan is to
start reimplementing these features.
 * We have a number of patches for an old snapshot, which is very different
from current trunk. Need to get all this migrated into the current trunk
(related to above).

NMaven develops plugins and integration for Maven to make building and using
.NET languages a first-class citizen in Maven.

Incubating since: 2006-11-17

Items to resolve before graduation
* More active committer involvement. We have two active committers from
different organizations but need at least one more.

Status:
* We are currently voting on our first release.
* We have brought NMaven fully in line with Maven architecture. This took a
major rewrite of the code.
* Steady increase of mailing list subscribers over this period (from 35 to
43).

Plans:
* We lost a lot of features when we rewrote the code so the plan is to
start reimplementing these features.
* Proceed with frequent release cycle

14 Nov 2007

NMaven develops plugins and integration for Maven to make building and using
.NET languages a first-class citizen in Maven.

Incubating since: 2006-11-17

Items to resolve before graduation
 * More active committer involvement. This involves getting a group of
developers familiar with the NMaven internals (both .NET and Java), as well
as growing a larger community of developers who are creating Maven plugins
in .NET.
 * Closer interaction with the Maven team.

Status:
 * Movement toward a release. Updating all the license files, changing the
artifact names to include "incubating", etc. This is the highest priority
for the project.
 * There had been some concern among committers that the code was changing
too rapidly making it difficult to attract new committers/patches. We've
slowed the pace of new features and have focused on bug fixes.
 * Mailing list activity has been slow recently, but steady increase of
mailing list subscribers over this period (from 27 to 35).

Plans:
 * Preparing for a release
 * Bringing NMaven in closer line with Maven architecture and behavior.

More active committer involvement. This involves getting a group of

as growing a larger community of developers who are creating Maven plugins
in .NET.

Closer interaction with the Maven team.

Status:

Added new committer: Evan Worley

Attempted to reach out to Lucene.NET (and other .NET projects external to
ASF) but no response from any projects.

There is some concern that NMaven may be drifting from Maven in terms of
common architecture/code. Made (and making) active attempts to raise
visibility of NMaven issues among general Maven developers by posting to
maven dev list and submitting proposals for review.

Plans:

Major IDE features

16 May 2007

NMaven develops plugins and integration for Maven to make building and using
.NET languages a first-class citizen in Maven.

Incubating since: 2006-11-17

Items to resolve before graduation
 * More active committer involvement. This involves getting a group of
developers familiar with the NMaven internals (both .NET and Java), as well
as growing a larger community of developers who are creating Maven plugins
in .NET.
 * Engage other ASF projects (Lucene.NET, log4net) to see if NMaven can meet
any of their needs
 * Need a fair amount of work in getting the features in place so that we
can automate releases of the .NET assemblies and projects. Getting on a
regular schedule of releases, should help grow the community.

Status:
 * Active involvement from the community has been a little slow; but has
picked up recently, as seen by the recent increase of discussions on the
mailing list and community interest in submitting patches for features.
 * Published 6-month Road Map on Wiki
 * The latest features of writing Maven plugins directly in .NET and of IDE
integration between Maven and Visual Studio are both targeted directly
toward .NET developers. These features are expected to increase developer
interest from the .NET community, particularly among those who may not have
had previous experience with Java or Maven.
 * Fast feather talk on NMaven at ApacheCon in effort to increase community
interest in project

Plans:
 * Work on getting the site documentation up-to-date with the latest
features
 * Work on improving IDE features
 * Preparing for a release

* JIRA issue tracker setup
* More community involvement: mailing-list, bugs, patches, etc

Plans:
* Work on a .NET integration test component

iPMC questions / comments:
* yoavs: What does "More community involvement: mailing-list, bugs,
 patches, etc" mean?
