## Description: The mission of OpenMeetings is the creation and maintenance of software related to OpenMeetings: Web-Conferencing and real-time collaboration ## Project Status: Current project status: Dormant Issues for the board: none ## Membership Data: Apache OpenMeetings was founded 2013-01-25 (12 years ago) There are currently 30 committers and 28 PMC members in this project. The Committer-to-PMC ratio is roughly 8:7. Community changes, past quarter: - No new PMC members. Last addition was Ali Alhaidary on 2021-03-22. - No new committers. Last addition was Ali Alhaidary on 2021-04-07. ## Project Activity: We are still in progress of 8.0.0 release. As far as I can see only one issue remains. Recent releases: - 7.2.0 was released on 2023-12-23. - 7.1.0 was released on 2023-05-09. - 7.0.0 was released on 2023-02-13. ## Community Health: Mail list activity is at low level. The development is at maintenance mode. I'm not sure if new release can attract more users, but it is possible :)

Last addition was Ali Alhaidary on 2021-04-07. ## Project Activity: There is not much happening at the project. 8.0.0 release is being prepared (hopefully will be released in a week or two). Users queries are rare. This release includes new Jakarta stack this is why it takes significant time to being prepared and tested. Recent releases: - 7.2.0 was released on 2023-12-23. - 7.1.0 was released on 2023-05-09. - 7.0.0 was released on 2023-02-13. ## Community Health: Unfortunately there is not much interest to the project these days. Email traffic is getting lower every quarter. Let's see if new release will gain some interest from the community. It is still being used for educational/interview/e-hospital purposes.
No report was submitted.

## Description: Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. ## Releases: Version 3.0.5 has been released in the end of April, unfortunately it contains one critical issue and we are preparing to release 3.0.6 this week. There is still ongoing work on the 3.0.x tree to fix issues and add new functionality. As well as ongoing work in trunk for the 3.1.x tree. ## Activity: The constant activity in mailing list, JIRA and commits. We observing minor decrease in mailing list activity, but we believe this is caused by "low season". ## Community: Our project was accepted for GSOC this year, we have 2 students. Unfortunately there is not very much development activity: 1-2 active developers. We tried to start company on bountysource.com to get some attention and money for development but wasn't successful. ## Infrastructure: No outstanding issue. ## Board: There is not very much development activity: 1-2 active developers, maybe we can get some advise on how to increase the level of activity.
@Brett: Are there enough PMC members? Is the chair able to keep the board informed?

Maxim Solodovnik is going to the ApacheCon EU and do a presentation about OpenMeetings. == Infrastructure == No outstanding issue. == Board == There are no outstanding issues requiring board attention.
@Bertrand: follow up on the WeNeedYou page issues.

This report was due for the board meeting in August 2014. Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. == Releases == Version 3.0.2 has been released. Version 3.0.2 is the second bugfix release of Apache OpenMeetings. There is currently a vote running for 3.0.3 and it is expected to be released some time in September. == Activity == The constant activity in mailing list, jira and commits. The process of migrating OpenMeetings from Ant/Ivy to a Maven module build is complete. Also the website at http://openmeetings.apache.org is re-build using more or less the same content but using the Maven website templates. Trunk is already version 3.1.x. Version 3.1.x reduces the amount of Flash used again. While version 3.0.x is still using OpenLaszlo and the entire conference room is using Flash, in version 3.1.x only the video containers are Flash. The rest of the conference room is build using HTML5. Also this version will build those Flash components using Apache Flex. Infra team provided a demo server to the project. We are still in the process of installing some of the SSL components of OpenMeetings. The idea is to expand the automated testing in the next 6-12 months with a Selenium test suite that runs against that server. And to integrated that into the daily builds and release process. == Community == There is constant activity in the mailing list however no new members have been voted into a PMC role. == Infrastructure == No outstanding issue. We have seen that there is some work ongoing to provide a SSL certificate for Apache projects for code signing (INFRA-3991). We are following that to integrate it into our build process. == Board == There are no outstanding issues requiring board attention.

@Chris: pursue a report for OpenMeetings
Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. == Releases == Version 3.0.0 has been released! Version 3.0.0 is the first release that uses Apache Wicket for roughly 50% of the UI. It is a HTML5 / Flash hybrid. The conference room is still Flash, everything else is in Wicket. Further advancing into HTML5 for the real-time components is planned as they become available. == Activity == There is constant activity in mailing list, jira and commits. The main focus in since the last report have been: - Release and review - Migrating to Maven Maxim Solodovnik has migrated parts of the complex ANT/Ivy based build process to Maven. Great effort has gone into this and we are excited to further advance our build process into a fully Maven enhanced build, dev, test and release process. == Community == There have been a number of GSoC candidates but no project was selected this year so far. Probably part of the problem was the lack of tailoring out some suitable project scopes where mentors and students equally confident can commit to. == Infrastructure == We are still waiting on some resources for a demo server (INFRA-6906). We would like to advance our project with Selenium Tests to establish a regression testing suite. The demo server would be an integral part of that enhancement. We are also keen on the result of the Infra’s team effort to create a code signing certificate from a trusted auth (INFRA-3991). == Board == There are no outstanding issues requiring board attention.
Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. == Releases == There was a maintenance release of the 2.x branch: Release 2.2.0. That was mainly a bug fix release with a few improvements and new features. There is a first RC for 3.0 upcoming. v3.0 is a HTML5/Flash hybrid and is using a new system architecture with Apache Wicket. The hybrid version will do all in HTML5, except the conference room itself. == Activity == There is activity in the mailing list, jira and commits. The main focus since the last report has been: - Create release of version 2.2.0 - Discuss demo server requirements with Infra team == Community == There is a constant stream of new users, similar to previous months. Community statistics: - 21 PMC members (+/- 0 since last report) - 127 subscribers to dev list, (+7 since last report) - 285 subscribers to user list, (+18 since last report) - 868 issues in Jira in total, (+60 since last report) - 735 of them are closed or resolve (+66 since last report) == Infrastructure == There is an outstanding request at INFRA-6906 for allocating some resources for the project for a demo server for testing/selenium/developer reference. == Board == There are no outstanding issues requiring board attention.
Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. == Releases == There are no outstanding releases. There might be also some more months to come as the HTML5 rework has to be done step by step and is a major component. == Activity == There is constant activity in mailing list, jira and commits. The main focus since the last report have been: - Development of version 3.0 (HTML5 version) of OpenMeetings - GSoC project (whiteboard) - Advancing Test with UI Testing framework (Selenium) == Community == There is a constant stream of new users, users that become developers and developers that become PMCs. Community statistics (as of 30th Sept 2013): - 21 PMC members (+/- 0 since last report) - 120 subscribers to dev list, (+8 since last report) - 267 subscribers to user list, (+20 since last report) - 808 issues in Jira in total, (+111 since last report) - 669 of them are closed or resolve (+137 since last report) == Infrastructure == There has been a spec for an OpenMeetings server discussed and approved in the PMC and submitted to @Infra for review/approval. (http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openmeetings-dev/201309.mbox/%3CCACeMiA_fU8whT__%2BpxkGKnSm1-q-Bd9RMY5meWU%2Bm2oAgC%2BKWg%40mail.gmail.com%3E) == Board == There are no outstanding issues requiring board attention.
Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. == Releases == A maintenance release of the 2.1 tree has been released: Version 2.1.1 25 issues have been resolved, main focus of the fixes has been bug fixes and maintenance. == Activity == There is constant activity in mailing list, jira and commits. The main focus since the last report have been: - Release 2.1.1 (finding consens around appropriate Release Notes was one obstacle) - Development of version 3.0 (HTML5 version) of OpenMeetings - GSoC project (whiteboard) == Community == There is a constant stream of new users, users that become developers and developers that become PMCs. There was one new PMC member voted: * Yuliya Algaer (at 25th of April) Current community statistics: - 21 PMC members - 112 subscribers to dev list - 247 subscribers to user list - 697 issues in Jira in total, (532 of them are closed) All data based on Incubation start date at: 12-2011 == Infrastructure == There has been a discussion ongoing about having a basic demo server at the Apache infrastructure as relying on private or corporate sponsored resources is not as good as having a community owned server/hardware. However the steps to complete that process might take weeks/months. == Board == There are no outstanding issues requiring board attention.
Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. == Releases == The first release was created and announced. Apache OpenMeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools like calendar, invitations and emails using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. == Releases == The PMC has not made a release this reporting period. But we have elected a release manager (Maxim Solodovnik) and, issues have been assigned and ordered, features to be put into version 2.1 are discussed. Target date for release 2.1 would be beginning of March. == Activity == The constant activity in mailing list, jira and commits. The main focus in the last couple of weeks since incubation have been: - Moving all resources to top level project infrastructure - Status complete, except the incubator releases that currently remain on the incubator mirrors. - Discussion about release - Status: See point -Releases- - Main features working on: SIP integration/Asterisk VoIP bridge, clustering and load balancing, minor improvements around source code organization and feature enhancements. == Community == We have been starting to search for ideas for GSoC 2013 program. Probably we will try to offer a project around integration of OpenMeetings with Khan Academy to provide Virtual classrooms. There have been contributions around Joomla integration and Ldap that have been applied or are in the process of reviewing by developers. There are currently two Votes processing for new committers and PMC members. == Outreach == There is no dev coming to ApacheCon NA because developers are located in Russia, Australia and New Zealand and can’t make it to the conference. == Infrastructure == All resources have been moved to new infrastructure except the incubator releases that are still on incubator mirrors. == Board == There are no outstanding issues requiring board attention.

Openmeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. OpenMeetings entered the incubation on November 12, 2011. Summary: Infrastructure and code clearance is done from the developer team and ready to be reviewed. JARs are no more in our SVN and a first NOTICE file for dependencies is written and to be discussed when the first official Release Candidate is nominated. The Release Candidate is basically ready. We are just working on some issues with the Flash Streaming Protocol's variant "RTMPT", that is Flash Streaming over HTTP Tunneling. RTMPT is just a fallback protocol and not the primary used in OpenMeetings. Nevertheless it is important to sort that out, as the Tunneling protocol is needed for bypassing Firewalls. The RTMPT issue is basically a Red5 issue and we are hoping to either contribute or find other ways helping Red5 community to sort it out. Our 3 official GSoC students are doing good and we have weekly meetings where we discuss with them their projects. The results of the weekly meetings are published to the developer mailing list. We have a 4th volunteering student that does his GSoC project even if not accepted officially by Google. He does enhance the ATutor plugin for OCAD: http://wiki.atutor.ca/display/atutorwiki/Google+Summer+of+Code+2012#GoogleSummerofCode2012-13.EnhanceIntegrationofATutorwithApacheOpenMeetingsWebConferencing OCAD Devs have kindly contributed their existing Code under APL (https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OPENMEETINGS-280) so that the student can work on it and contribute his patches to the Apache OpenMeetings. Community is growing, although not all people have found their way to the new mailing list and website yet. But we think that will change as soon as there is an announcement with a new release. Openmeetings provides video conferencing, instant messaging, white board, collaborative document editing and other groupware tools using API functions of the Red5 Streaming Server for Remoting and Streaming. OpenMeetings entered the incubation on November 12, 2011. - A question for PMC: Should we start a demo server on Apache, so people can benefit from communication? Project status: - We have prepared our build environment for integration with Apache's build server and discussing with Infra team https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OPENMEETINGS-2 https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-4438 - Integration of new Audio/Video components, progress is documentated at: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OPENMEETINGS/NewAudioVideoComponents - A first version of the JIRA Plugin for Openmeetings is ready https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/openmeetings/branches/jira-plugin/ http://vimeo.com/37419990 - Code review is ongoing to prepare files for IP clearance Community status: - Wiki starting to get in shape https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OPENMEETINGS - Tutorials english/spanish and VMWare Image created by Alavaro https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OPENMEETINGS/Tutorials+related+to+OpenMeetings https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OPENMEETINGS/ISO+Live+OpenMeetings+1.9.1+in+Ubuntu+11.04+to+download Problems: - currently the legal status of our plugins is not 100% clear if we are able to maintain and publish them under ASL, see http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-openmeetings-dev/201202.mbox/%3CCACeMiA-HLOFjCj%3DHopsHz-FP884JyQ5mwHnGPVSrD5TVC_D%2BTw%40mail.gmail.com%3E we need to discuss that further and get an official statement. Summary: The project prepares some of the infrastructure, releases of the OpenMeetings plugins and refactors the sources for a first incubator release of the OpenMeetings Application. Details: The project has a number of Plugins that it releases for integration of OpenMeetings into other platforms: Moodle Plugin, SugarCRM Plugin, those Plugins have been refactored to be compatible with Apache License and can be released now. OpenMeetings project itself has replaced the Library JOD , which is part of the conversion with OpenOffice and import of .doc/.ppt/.xls/.odp/... to whiteboard of OpenMeetings (OPENMEETINGS-32). JOD library is not part of the OpenMeetings distribution anymore and users will need to configure the path to JOD library on their installation to enable the importer. This is a temporary solution, the Developers of JOD library will change their license to an APL compatible as soon as Apache OpenOffice successfully releases under APL (Message from JOD Developers: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/jodconverter/2f0bo38H59I/P_Dro3pe64QJ). The UI interface has been refactored to have the possibility to configure the UI elements (OPENMEETINGS-21 to OPENMEETINGS-25) The SIP integration has been refactored and we are talking to the developers of Red5 (http://code.google.com/p/red5phone/) how we will handle integration between the two projects in the future. The Red5 project has changed its license to APL (http://code.google.com/p/red5/source/detail?r=4309) Plan: - Calendar UI will be refactored to use REST API in the coming weeks instead of RTMP protocol, Laszlo Calendar Component (CPL licensed) will be removed from the sources. Conversion to REST should improve the possibility to switch to pure JavaScript UI on the long run. - The integration with Apache's Continuous Build environment is a todo. The current ANT script is not compatible with the Hudson/Jenkins build environment at ASF and needs to be refactored (OPENMEETINGS-2) - There are plans to add a JIRA / confluence plugin Community: - There are still messages to the old project website, but the majority of the users have switched to the new project website. - There are a number of 3th party maintained Plugins, especially for E-Learning frameworks like Sakai, ILias, StudIP, ATutor, ELGG. We will need to convert those docs/references to the ASF website. Signed off by mentor: yegor, jim
