## Description:
Sentry is a highly modular system for providing fine grained role based
authorization to both data and metadata stored on an Apache Hadoop Cluster.

## Issues:
No issues at this point. Some guidance might be helpful:
1. Sentry had PPMC = committer as a podling. What can we learn from podlings
who had committer = PPMC, but changed/retained that model post graduation.
2. We have recently voted and added two committers. The vote mentioned only
committership, a mention of PMC would have been ideal. We are discussing
next steps among PMCs. Would the board recommend running the vote for PMC?

## Activity:
Post graduation: Most of the move done except some exceptions which are in
progress: INFRA-11496, SENTRY-1211

Preparing for 1.7.0 release: Sentry-1110

Conferences / community outreach:
- Hao and Anne are giving a talk at ApacheCon about Generalized Auth model
- Ashish is giving a talk at ApacheCon about Sentry Kafka integration and
authz in streaming.

Development: Here are the major buckets
- Test improvements especially around time taken to run.
- Kafka: Enable dist, shell
- Solr: Policy file to db
- V2: Enable dist
- User:role
- Import/export improvements
- Bug fixes
- HA improvements

## Health report:
Activity is good, no notable surges or declines.

## PMC changes:
- Currently 31 PMC members.
- No new PMC members added in the last 3 months

## Committer base changes:
 - Currently 33 committers

## Releases:
Preparing for the 1.7.0 release: Sentry-1110

## Mailing list activity:
Subscribers to private and security increased as new PMCs (post graduation)

Sentry is a highly modular system for providing fine grained role based
authorization to both data and metadata stored on an Apache Hadoop cluster.

Sentry has been incubating since 2013-08-08.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Review PPMC election policy, if committers will become PPMC on
graduation. Community is right now discussing this.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

Graduation discussions have started. There seems to be some disagreement
on graduation readiness which led to a broad discussion on general@. Seems
like most of it is resolved but still need mentors agreement. The Sentry
community did a number of things since last report to address the
 concerns/suggestions around the open communication.

 1. Community monthly hangout, IRC channel that's just been setup.
 2. Community members presented Sentry at the ApacheCon
 3. Sentry meetup at NY during HadoopWorld

How has the community developed since the last report?

 1. We had ~260 messages on dev list in the past two months. (Got number
    from http://markmail.org/list/org.apache.sentry.dev)

How has the project developed since the last report?

been added since the project has entered the incubator, although PPMC
election policies are being discussed in the community.

    raised

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

 P. Taylor Goetz:

Mentors are engaged and have raised a number of issues for the project to
address prior to graduation. The Sentry community seems to be actively
working on addressing those issues. One issue (raised by mentor David
Nalley) that seems yet to be addressed is a lack of on-list discussions
   regarding project direction.

Sentry is a highly modular system for providing fine grained role based
authorization to both data and metadata stored on an Apache Hadoop cluster.

Sentry has been incubating since 2013-08-08.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Build community and add new committers
 2. Continue to release at regular intervals

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

 None

How has the community developed since the last report?

Community development continues. Sentry was presented to various user
groups (Hive User Group, New York Hadoop User Group) with great interest.
Sentry community hosted its first meetup in NYC. Nearly 20 people attended
the meetup. There was great interest and lively discussions.

How has the project developed since the last report?

A number of new JIRAs have been filed and are being actively worked on.
