We did reach out to press@ and drafted some communication to take out right after releasing 3.0.0. We remark that the work towards Syncope 3.0.0 had led to cooperation with Open Source projects external to the ASF as Apereo CAS and Pac4j. Aside from this work, there is still some onging maintenance activity on branch 2_1_X, which should lead to a new release 2.1.13 from there. ## Community Health: Discussions about new features and improvements keep appearing and being followed up in dev@. Newcomers approach user@ and are getting supported by the community. GitHub's Pull Requests confirm to be the preferred way to contributions, from both first-time contributors and committers.

## Description: Apache Syncope is an Open Source system for managing digital identities in enterprise environments. ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention at this time. ## Activity: The last months were busy with fixes, new features and enhancements for the stable branch, which led to the release of 2.0.3. We received 5 final proposals for GSoC 2017 (more candidates triggered discussions on JIRA or dev@, but did not finalize any proposal): 2 were not considered upfront because we had only 3 mentors available, 2 were discarded by the internal ASF ranking process, 1 was reject because the proposing student was already accepted by another organization. ## Health report: Discussions about new features and improvements arouse in the dev@ and still progressing. The increase of subscribers to both dev@ and user@, and the considerably higher number of messages exchanged are both relevant indicators of community health. The number of proposals received for GSoC 2017 is another indicator that the project looks attractive. The fact that we could not accept any proposal is instead unfortunate, partially caused by the poor quality of some proposals and possibly also due to the timing used in the internal process for acceptance. ## PMC changes: - Currently 11 PMC members. - No new PMC members added in the last 3 months - Last PMC addition was Andrea Patricelli on Thu Oct 13 2016 ## Committer base changes: - Currently 20 committers. - No new committers added in the last 3 months - Last committer addition was Matteo Di Carlo at Sat Jul 09 2016 ## Releases: - 2.0.3 was released on Sat Apr 25 2017
## Description: Apache Syncope is an Open Source system for managing digital identities in enterprise environments. ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention at this time. ## Activity: Overall, the period was busy with bugfixing and enhancements to the stable (2.0) and old stable (1.2) series. New users are approaching via IRC and the user mailing list. About the Syncope PoC with Infra, we have started some activity on the provided VM and got some initial support from Infra. ## Health report: Discussions about new features and improvements arose in the dev mailing list and still progressing. At the moment we have not yet identified any potential new committer, though some contribution via GitHub PR is in progress. ## PMC changes: - Currently 11 PMC members. - No new PMC members added in the last 3 months - Last PMC addition was Andrea Patricelli on Thu Oct 13 2016 ## Committer base changes: - Currently 20 committers. - No new committers added in the last 3 months - Last committer addition was Matteo Di Carlo at Sat Jul 09 2016 ## Releases: - 1.2.10 was released on Tue Jan 24 2017 - 2.0.2 was released on Fri Jan 27 2017
## Description: Apache Syncope is an Open Source system for managing digital identities in enterprise environments. ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention at this time. ## Activity: This quarter has been busy with final 2.0.0 release and related announcement on the ASF blog. For the occasion, The New Stack published an interview with V.P. Apache Syncope: https://s.apache.org/x18F The new major release 2.0.0 incorporated some relevant contributions received via Github, including SYNCOPE-808 which was successfully completed as part of GSoC 2016. A pull request for SYNCOPE-809, which instead did not complete for GSoC 2016, is currently under work. About the Syncope PoC with infra, we are still on hold waiting for the availability of a "playground zone" - see INFRA-10931 for details. It has been quite a while now without any feedback or ETA, it might be the case to consider retiring the proposal. ## Health report: We have recently invited 2 new PMC members and they both accepted (this also in response to mt comment from our last report). Two talks about new features in 2.0 are scheduled for ApacheCon EU 2016 by two PMC members. ## PMC changes: - Currently 11 PMC members. - New PMC members: - Andrea Patricelli was added to the PMC on Thu Oct 13 2016 - Giacomo Lamonaco was added to the PMC on Thu Oct 13 2016 ## Committer base changes: - Currently 20 committers. - No new committers added in the last 3 months - Last committer addition was Matteo Di Carlo at Sat Jul 09 2016 ## Releases: - 2.0.0.M5 was released on Fri Sep 02 2016 - 2.0.0 was released on Fri Sep 09 2016 - 1.2.9 was released on Fri Oct 07 2016 - 2.0.1 was released on Fri Oct 21 2016
## Description: Apache Syncope is an Open Source system for managing digital identities in enterprise environments. ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention at this time. ## Activity: The activity level on user@ is still slowly growing, especially with new users asking directions for milestone releases in preparation of 2.0.0. The work towards 2.0.0 seems to be fruitful: we are finalizing the new documentation and improving our Apache Camel-based provisioning features. There is also an ongoing effort to provide Apache Syncope with identity recertification capabilities. The experience with Google Summer of Code is evolving: the Eclipse plugin (SYNCOPE-809) is doing fine, is expected to be completed according to the original schedule and is going to be part of the 2.0.0 release; the Netbeans plugin (SYNCOPE-808), instead, failed the mid-term review but was submitted anyway as incomplete pull request on GitHub. About the Syncope PoC with infra, we are currently on hold waiting for the availability of a "playground zone" - see INFRA-10931 for details. ## Health report: The overall activity is consistently at good level: discussion on project features and improvements are coordinated on dev@, contributions are regularly accepted as pull requests on GitHub. We have reported a new contributor in the team list website page and elected a new committer (Matteo Di Carlo), who accepted. ## PMC changes: - Currently 9 PMC members. - No new PMC members added in the last 3 months - Last PMC addition was Guido Wimmel on Sat Apr 05 2014 ## Committer base changes: - Currently 20 committers. - Matteo Di Carlo was added as a committer on Sat Jul 09 2016 ## Releases: - 1.2.8 was released on Fri Jun 03 2016 - 2.0.0-M3 was released on Fri Jun 03 2016 - 2.0.0-M4 was released on Fri Jun 24 2016
## Description: Apache Syncope is an Open Source system for managing digital identities in enterprise environments. ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention at this time. ## Activity: The activity level on dev@ and user@ keeps growing slowly, with new subscribers. We are still in the process of finalizing 2.0: M2 was released in this quarter, M3 will be probably required before 2.0.0. About the ongoing work, besides other fixes and improvements, we have recently received the contribution of admin console UI translation in Russian thanks to Dmitry Berezkin, which we also decided to report as contributor in the team list website page. We are keeping an eye on Dmitry to check if his support (about Russian translation, but also other aspects) will stay and possibly increment, in order to consider him for committership. We have been involved for the first time ever in the Google Summer of Code, with two projects accepted: we need to take this as an opportunity to enlarge our developers community. About the Syncope PoC with infra, we are currently on hold waiting for the availability of a "playground zone" - see previous board report's comments and INFRA-10931 for details. ## Committer / PMC changes: - Currently 19 committers and 9 LDAP committee group members. - No new PMC members added in the last 3 months - Last PMC addition was Guido Wimmel in April 2014 - Last committer addition was Giacomo Lamonaco in January 2015 ## Releases: - 2.0.0-M2 (Mar 21st, 2016) ## Mailing list activity: - dev@syncope.apache.org: - 76 subscribers (up 7 in the last 3 months): - 714 emails sent to list (503 in previous quarter) - user@syncope.apache.org: - 125 subscribers (up 7 in the last 3 months): - 128 emails sent to list (97 in previous quarter) ## JIRA activity: - 75 JIRA tickets created in the last 3 months - 70 JIRA tickets closed/resolved in the last 3 months
## Description: Apache Syncope is an Open Source system for managing digital identities in enterprise environments. ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention at this time. ## Activity: We are seeing an increasing activity level on both user@ and dev@ mailing lists, especially related to the first milestone release cut in December from 2.0.0, which provides a first essay of several new features. The main focus is now set to complete the missing bits for 2.0.0, especially about renewed documentation and admin console. The PMC has briefly discussed in December about the opportunity to rotate the PMC chair; such discussion brought anyway to confirmation of the current chair. In December we have also started dicussing with Infra about the possibility of a PoC for proving the effectiveness of using Syncope for ASF corporate identity management but, after an initial interest - which led to the creation of a new GIT repository for the purpose - things seem to have stalled. ## Committer / PMC changes: - Currently 19 committers and 9 LDAP committee group members. - No new PMC members added in the last 3 months - Last PMC addition was Guido Wimmel in April 2014 - Last committer addition was Giacomo Lamonaco in January 2015 ## Releases: - 2.0.0-M1 (Dec 23rd, 2015) - 1.2.7 (Jan 15th, 2016) ## Mailing list activity: - dev@syncope.apache.org: - 70 subscribers (up 5 in the last 3 months): - 557 emails sent to list (440 in previous quarter) - user@syncope.apache.org: - 118 subscribers (up 8 in the last 3 months): - 120 emails sent to list (76 in previous quarter) ## JIRA activity: - 41 JIRA tickets created in the last 3 months - 37 JIRA tickets closed/resolved in the last 3 months
## Description: Apache Syncope is an Open Source system for managing digital identities in enterprise environments. ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention at this time. ## Activity: New users keep popping up in mailing lists, asking for support with various deployment scenarios, even for areas where traditional identity management is not very common (say physical access control management) or new geographic locations (South Africa, Colombia). Presentation "Building Open Source Identity Infrastructures" was given at ApacheCon: Core Europe 2015, showing Apache Syncope references, with good feedback both during speech and afterwards (Twitter, LinkedIn, SlideShare). While keeping bugfix activity on branch 1_2_X, it is fair to say that most of current work is done on master targeting 2.0.0. Someone has already asked, via user ML, if release date was already planned but, since there is still a significant amount of work to be completed, we will probably go for one or more intermediate milestone releases. In the last months we are featuring an IRC channel, setup with help from Infra and properly archived. ## Commiter / PMC changes: - Currently 19 committers and 9 LDAP committee group members. - No new PMC members added in the last 3 months - Last PMC addition was Guido Wimmel in April 2014 - Last committer addition was Giacomo Lamonaco in January 2015 ## Releases: - 1.2.6 (Nov 5th, 2015) ## Mailing list activity: - dev@syncope.apache.org: - 64 subscribers (up 0 in the last 3 months): - 515 emails sent to list (292 in previous quarter) - user@syncope.apache.org: - 110 subscribers (up 4 in the last 3 months): - 81 emails sent to list (91 in previous quarter) ## JIRA activity: - 42 JIRA tickets created in the last 3 months - 58 JIRA tickets closed/resolved in the last 3 months
