Trafodion is a webscale SQL-on-Hadoop solution enabling transactional or
operational workloads on Hadoop.

Trafodion has been incubating since 2015-05-24.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

 1. Develop community and bring in more diverse contributors.
 2. Continue the momentum and become more integrated with the
    rest of the Apache community.
 3. Continue to create software releases.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

 * None

How has the community developed since the last report?

 * Participation in public lists has been relatively steady:
   715 messages in the codereview forum, 728@commits,
   257@dev, 1155@issues and 61@user.
 * We are working towards our next release, 2.1.
 * Gunnar Tapper has volunteered to be the Release Manager.
 * Identified items for the roadmap of our next release:
    - TRAFODION-2067 Support CDH 5.7
    - TRAFODION-1988 Better java exception handling in the
                     java layer of Trafodion
    - TRAFODION-2117 Add support of SQL extension 'EXCEPT'
    - TRAFODION-2060 Add support for native tinyint datatype
    - TRAFODION-1931 ODB tool support on Windows platform
    - TRAFODION-1861 Support Trafodion running on CentOS 7
    - TRAFODION-1673 Implement the WITH clause in Trafodion
                     SQL for simple use cases
    - TRAFODION-2047 add SQL syntax support to INTERSECT
    - TRAFODION-2127 enhance Trafodion implementation of
                     WITH clause
 * The community continues to be active in China, with
   some communications happening outside the Apache dev lists,
   we had a discussion on the Incubator general list about that.
 * Community members speaking at public events:
    - Liu Ming had a Trafodion open-class for undergraduates
      at FuDan University, Shanghai on Nov 10.
    - Jin Jian had a Trafodion open-class for post-graduate
      students at FuDan University, Shanghai on Nov 24

How has the project developed since the last report?

 * 253 commits from 27 contributors.
 * 182 JIRAs filed and 113 resolved Sep 1 - Nov 30.
 * Many of the roadmap items listed above have been
   implemented, plus many more enhancements not listed
   above.

How has the community developed since the last report?

 * Participation in public lists has been relatively steady:
   789 messages in the codereview forum, 752@commits,
   483@dev, 1240@issues and 101@user.
 * We released Trafodion 2.0.0 (source and some binaries) and
   Trafodion 2.0.1 (source and convenience binaries).
   Steve Varnau was the release manager for both releases.
 * We announced two new committers and three new PPMC members:
   * Gunnar Tapper (committer and PPMC member), July 5
   * Steve Varnau (existing committer, now also a PPMC member),
     Aug 18
   * Ming Liu (committer and PPMC member), Aug 19
 * We have seen increased activity in China.
 * We are working on a roadmap for the next release, Atanu Mishra
   has volunteered to coordinate it.
 * Community members speaking at public events:
   * Rohit Jain talked at Data Day Seattle on 7/23
   * Rao Kakarlamudi talked at the Milpitas Big Data meetup on 8/5

How has the project developed since the last report?

 * Some highlights of Trafodion 2.0.0:
   * Support for Apache HBase 1.0 and Hadoop distros CDH 5.4, HDP 2.3
   * Elasticity (adding/removing nodes from a Trafodion instance)
   * DDL operations are now transaction-protected
   * BLOB/CLOB support (preview)
   * ALTER COLUMN for all column attributes
   * Support for GBK character set in Hive tables
 * 249 commits from 24 contributors.
 * 180 JIRAs filed and 123 resolved June 1 - Aug 30.

    support for Apache HBase 1.x without a commercial distribution.
 3. Continue the momentum and become more integrated with the
    rest of the Apache community.

 * None

How has the community developed since the last report?

 * Participation in public lists has been steady:
   722 messages in the codereview forum, 1045@commits,
   689@dev, 1294@issues and 240@user.
 * Upcoming release 2.0 was verified by several new users.
 * Release 2.0 is being actively discussed in the dev forum.

How has the project developed since the last report?

 * For our second release in incubation, Trafodion 2.0 release
   candidate 3 has passed an internal vote. It was submitted for
   a vote in the incubator PMC on May 31. Many thanks go to Steve
   Varnau, the release manager!
 * Added documentation in form of HTML and PDF manuals.
 * 314 commits from 28 contributors.
 * 171 JIRAs filed and 165 resolved in the last three months.

 RuoYu Zuo was announced as a new committer in February.
 The last PMC members were announced in November 2015.
 We expect to add an additional committer soon.

 * Steve Varnau has agreed to be the release manager for
   our next release.
 * A logo for Apache Trafodion was adopted by vote in February.

How has the project developed since the last report?

 * Completed our first release in incubation, Trafodion 1.3.0,
   on Jan 11, 2016. Many thanks go to Roberta Marton, the release manager.

 * Completely redesigned the web page, http://trafodion.apache.org
   and moved content from the wiki to the site, following the example
   of other Apache projects.
 * Published documentation in form of HTML and PDF manuals.

 * 200 JIRAs filed and 139 resolved in the last three months.

When were the last committers or PMC members elected?

 RuoYu Zuo was announced as a new committer in February.
 The last PMC members were announced in November 2015.
 In both cases the election happened a few weeks earlier
 but it took some time to get the necessary karma.

 1. Develop and diversify community and a deeper understanding of the
    Apache Way.
 2. Resolve remaining license conflicts and make our first Apache
    (incubating) release.
 3. Streamline incubator website, so that it is easy for new contributors
    to get started.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be
aware of?

 None.

How has the community developed since the last report?

 * Presented a talk at Apache: Big Data, 2015 in Budapest
 * Presented at NY Hadoop user group meetup
 * Roberta Marton has volunteered as Release Manager, for our first Apache
   release. The release is planned for the second half of December.
 * JIRAs being created by end users.
 * 14 new members filed an iCLA indicating interest to contribute to
   Trafodion, during the previous three months
 * User participation in public lists remains steady. 612@codereview,
   430@commits, 435@dev & 1364@issues during previous three months.
 * In the last month alone we had 137@codereview, 105@commits, 204@dev &
   370@issues.
 * Distinct culture shift -- discussions have moved out from private
   distribution lists into public Apache distribution lists

How has the project developed since the last report?

 * Wiki migration complete. New pages added regularly.

 * A website revamp is in progress
 * 18 authors have made 145 commits to master during previous three months.
   45,084 line additions, 109,035 deletions. 18 authors made 51 commits
   during November alone.
 * 177 JIRAs created and 262 resolved during September-November 2015, with
   83 created/42 resolved in November alone
 * Held our first IPMC vote for a release, for which we got much valuable
   feedback. We are currently addressing the issues and getting ready to
   try again
 * Much effort has gone into simplifying the install and build processes

   organizations.

 * Distinct culture shift -- discussions have moved out from private
   distribution lists into public Apache distribution lists

How has the project developed since the last report?

 * Wiki migration almost complete. Several new pages added.

 * 14 authors have made 51 commits to master in August. 5,574 files
   changed, 111,847 line additions, 93,047 deletions.

    all communication to project public dlists.
 2. Complete wiki migration and build website.
 3. Resolve remaining license conflicts.

 None.

How has the community developed since the last report?

 Contributions in the form of code, tests, JIRAs and a logo from about a
 dozen individuals, including a committer from another Apache project.
 Podlings learning about Apache way with guidance from Mentors through
 various mailing lists.

How has the project developed since the last report?

 Software Grant from HP completed

 Git repository migrated to Apache

 Daily builds are being done using a CI system outside of ASF
 Infrastructure.

 9 submissions from 7 contributors merged. 5 more in the review pipeline.

 15 JIRAs created and 5 closed in last 12 days

1. Software Grant so can migrate code to Apache
2. Podling name search pending
3. Get rest of the project infrastructure in place.  Migrate git
repositories, migrate from LaunchPad to JIRA, set up webpage and
builds
4. Develop community

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of?

None.

How has the community developed since the last report?

This is the first board report for Trafodion in incubator less than
two weeks. There have been some sign-ups on the dev list.

How has the project developed since the last report?

At this time, some of the basic project infrastructure is set up (git
repo, JIRA on Wednesday of this week, and wiki).  Some committers
(also PPMC members) have their accounts and are subscribed to the dev,
commits and private lists.

We have not done a release of Trafodion since incubation.
