Weex is a framework for building Mobile cross-platform high performance UI. Weex has been incubating since 2016-11-30. Three most important unfinished issues to address before graduating: 1. Third party plugins like weex-toolkit is not part of Apache Weex, and they may violate the trademark / copyright of ASF 2. The release procedure for Weex is not documented clearly. 3. More active committers and PPMC members should be invited into the community. Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of? No How has the community developed since the last report? 1. There are two new committers for Weex, e.g. He Ling and Darin726. 2. We have a new mentor : Jan Piotrowski 3. The mailing list for weex community is getting better, as we have 28 mailing threads in dev@weex.apache.org How has the project developed since the last report? 1. We launched new website for Weex. 2. We merged and closed 144 Github PRs 3. We had 212 Github issues created and 145 of them are solved. How would you assess the podling's maturity? Weex is a framework for building Mobile cross-platform high performance UI. Weex has been incubating since 2016-11-30. Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation: 1. A clear roadmap and corresponding project management, which should all be public and transparent to the community 2. Committers & PPMC members should be more activate and response in time when dealing with Email, Github Issue/Pull request 3. More activate committers & PPMC members outside Alibaba Group. Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of? The development of Weex is based on the Weex Github Repo, but none of the PPMC members have maintainer or administration privilege on the repo (https://github.com/apache/incubator-weex), which makes it time costing or impossible to add Webhook、PR Review Rules, etc. as INFRA member might response to a JIRA issue several days or weeks later. How has the community developed since the last report? New Committer: Qianyuan Wang(wqyfavor) and Douma Fang 75 Github issues solved/closed since last report, 56 issues still open. Weex is a framework for building high-performance mobile apps with modern web development experience. Weex has been incubating since 2016-11-30. Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation: 1. Propose more open discussions in the mailing list, improve the activity. 2. Establish a regular release schedule and a clear roadmap. 3. Develop more committers and PPMCs, stay focused on the community. Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of? Apologize for missing the last podling report. The main reason for it is the PPMC and committers does not pay enough attention in the mailing list. We have realized this mistake and decide to take more efforts on building the community. Here are some actions: 1. Hold meetings regularly among core contributors of Weex and publish the summary to the mailing list. 2. Take turns on duty for each release and podling reports. How has the community developed since the last report? * Released a new version (v0.19.0) of Weex. https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/3e7bfe9e3f79a8d4b46dbe668bfb559e4e539 bd7c5f4143107e6af00@%3Cgeneral.incubator.apache.org%3E * Hold a meetup in Shanghai at 2018-09-15, discussed technologies about the new render pipeline and interactive experience of Weex. * Migrate the source code from (git-wip-us.apache.org) to (gitbox.apache.org) and enabled the issue panel on the GitHub. How has the project developed since the last report? * In average, more than 10 PRs or commits were merged to the main branch each week. The Github repository now has 162 contributors (8 new since the last report) and 1451 forks (130 new). * Weex has developed a new render pipeline and used it in production, but it still needs more improvement. * A more CSS-friendly Weex Renderer is under discussing, it can fix many cross-platform inconsistency problems. The progress in 'getting it' is slow, and I have also asked privately how people know what to work on, as I suspect that this is happening at work, conf calls, or other means. I have been considering asking the IPMC to put the code repository in read-only to get people to wake up. There is a release attempt going on right now, and that has triggered a little bit more open communications, but it is far from acceptable. Dev work is remarkably strong, but community development is weak, which I see as signs of a corporate-driven project. IPMC/Shepherd notes: ptgoetz: The Weex community has shown some friction against adopting the Apache Way. Luckily there is one highly engaged mentor very actively nudging the community in the right direction. My concern is that other mentors have not engaged (no sign-offs to date), and if the primary mentor disappears for any length of time it could pose a problem. I'd like to see at least one more engaged mentor for a podling trying to develop its initial Apache "sea legs." johndament: The amount of private list email vs dev list email is a bit concerning. Niclas has been doing a great job helping the podling move along, but without major changes I suspect it will be difficult for them to progress forward.
Weex is a framework for building Mobile cross-platform high performance UI. Weex has been incubating since 2016-11-30. Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation: 1. Weex codebase has been migrated to Apache git repo. 2. Weex website has been deployed to https://weex.incubator.apache.org/ in gitpubsub way. 3. Made some guide for users and developers to Apache. Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of? No How has the community developed since the last report? * Just a beginning in Apache. * 71 stars and 14 forks in our new Apache repo in GitHub. * Notice: We have stopped committing code to the old repo since Feb 24 2017 but there are still a lot of activities which need to be migrated here. How has the project developed since the last report? * Weex codebase has been migrated to Apache git repo. * Travis-ci enabled for our new repo above. * Weex website has been deployed to https://weex.incubator.apache.org/ in gitpubsub way. * JIRA & Confluence space ready. I am trying to get the participants really grok TheApacheWay, as there is still too much "corporate think" in the project, and things are done seemingly randomly. The GitHub workflow is also something that I worry about, since it makes the mailing list look like a commit log and not really a community discussion forum. There is some who listens and trying to get their colleagues to understand. This doesn't seem to be a language (Chinese) issue as much as a GitHub culture issue. These guys love GitHub issues and pull requests. But I am hopeful we will get there.
Weex is a framework for building Mobile cross-platform high performance UI. Weex has been incubating since 2016-11-30. This is our first report. Weex community is really excited about joining Apache community and getting organized. Most of us are newbie of international open source community, Thanks everybody in ASF for your patience and encouragement. Most notable progress this first month; 1. 7 members of Weex team have submitted ICLAs. 2. SGA & CCLA have been signed and have been mailed to secretary, of ASF. 3. Project maillist & JIRA have been activated & we have volunteer JIRA administrator. Our setup issue on JIRA[1] Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of? * Code repository need be set up. How has the community developed since the last report? * Weex Github star number was reached 10k on December 21. How has the project developed since the last report? Since our Apache code repository haven’t been setup, the project have not been developed in Apache Way yet. But our pre-Apache development process are ongoing. Several bugs have been fixed and some new features have been added (detail of information [2]). We will migrate code to Apache repo as soon as possible.
