Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security, and
integration with popular build tools and source control management systems.

Activity

As expected, activity remained low since last report. The spike in issue tracker
and commit activity seen two periods ago was driven driven by a single
contributor with some, but limited, additional activity seen in the issue
tracker and mailing lists. Work towards the 1.5 release has stalled, with a
single issue remaining. A release based on current state may be possible, but
will require the necessary PMC votes, an unknown given the failure of the 1.4.3
release due to lack of votes.

Board Issues

 - None at this time. However, failure to release 1.5 next period due to lack
of PMC votes will likely result in a recommendation for a board-initiated
move to the Attic due to a non-functioning PMC.

PMC/Committership changes

 - Currently 18 committers and 13 PMC members in the project.

Activity

The increase in mailing list activity reported last period has settled back to
prior volumes. The spike in issue tracker and commit activity reported has
continued to be high with progress toward a 1.5 release, but contributions were
limited to an individual. The pending 1.4.3 vote reported last period failed due
to insufficient PMC votes.

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

Activity on the mailing lists was slightly increased since last report, but
still relatively low. Issue tracker and commit activity saw a significant spike
in the last month or so. There is currently an open vote for a 1.4.3 release and
work towards a 1.5 release has been steady.

The last project release was Continuum 1.4.2 on June 13, 2014. The last
committer was added December 8, 2010 and the last PMC member was added on
September 2, 2012.

Since last period, the project released Continuum 1.4.2 on June 13, 2014. Among
the changes was an important security fix addressing the previously reported
remote execution vulnerability.

Volume on the mailing lists and in the issue tracker was slightly higher than
the last few periods leading up to and immediately following the release of
1.4.2, but still low as expected.

There have been no new committers since last cycle. The last committer was
added December 8, 2010 and the last PMC member was added on September 2, 2012.

systems.

Volume on the mailing lists and in the issue tracker was higher than the last
few periods, but still low as expected.

The last release was Continuum 1.4.1, on January 7, 2013. A release including
an important fix for the previously reported remote execution vulnerabilities
is still pending.

There have been no new committers since last cycle. The last committer was

19 Mar 2014 [Brent Atkinson / Roy]

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

The heightened activity cited in the last report resulted in a temporarily
build to address the remote execution vulnerabilities in Apache Struts 2
that lead to vmbuild being compromised and subsequently disabled by the
infrastructure team. The build has been running on vmbuild without incident
since January, 7 2014.

The last release was Continuum 1.4.1, on January 7, 2013. A release including
fixes for the previously mentioned vulnerabilities is still pending.

As expected, there has been low volume on the mailing lists and in the issue
tracker.

There have been no new committers since last cycle. The last committer was
added December 8, 2010 and the last PMC member was added on September 2, 2012.

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

There has been heightened activity since the last cycle, much of which has been
related to migrating the project to recent versions of Apache Struts. This is
primarily to address a remote execution vulnerability that resulted in vmbuild
being compromised and subsequently disabled by the infrastructure team.

The last release was Continuum 1.4.1, on January 7, 2013. A release to address
the mentioned vulnerabilities is pending, but still being worked towards.

There has been volume on the mailing lists and in the issue tracker, but still
relatively low.

There have been no new committers since last cycle. The last committer was

21 Aug 2013 [Brett Porter]

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

There has been one burst of activity in the last cycle, cleaning up a number
of issues towards a further 1.4.2 release. No movement on that front yet,
however. There has been no activity on the users list.

Activity remains low as expected, but there are still enough PMC members
around to help when needed.

The last release was Continuum 1.4.1, on January 7, 2013.

We have not added any new committers recently. The last committer was added
December 8, 2010 and the last PMC member was added on September 2, 2012.

As there was another willing candidate, I have decided to stand down as chair
of the project. There were no other nominations from the PMC, so I expect to
include a resolution for the board's consideration once the vote has
completed.

15 May 2013 [Brett Porter]

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

As expected, activity has dropped off after the 1.4.1 release last quarter.
A contributor has recently submitted some patches related to the upgrade
that would warrant a 1.4.2 release once they are reviewed and applied.

User list activity was likewise very low, but questions were responded to.

The last release was Continuum 1.4.1, on January 7, 2013.

We have not added any new committers recently. The last committer was added
December 8, 2010 and the last PMC member was added on September 2, 2012.

20 Feb 2013 [Brett Porter]

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

This quarter saw the long overdue release of Continuum 1.4.1 on
January 7, 2013, including a number of accumulated improvements. This
also included a fix for a security vulnerability reported earlier,
based on the version of the Struts library used. We have recommended
all users upgrade and published details on a security page.

The project has moved to using svnpubsub for publishing the site and
documentation, and for release distributions.

All branding requirements have now been completed.

We are likely to have low activity from this point onwards, as the
application is mature and serves current user's needs. New
contributors would be welcomed, and there is enough attention from the
PMC to respond to new users and contributors as that arises, and to
produce a release if necessary.

We have not added any new committers recently. The last committer was added
December 8, 2010 and the last PMC member was added on September 2, 2012.

21 Nov 2012 [Brett Porter]

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

A number of issues blocking the Continuum 1.4.1 release have been resolved,
and the vote for that should be upcoming very shortly. Aside from that,
activity remains very low.

Occasional questions to the users@ list were responded to promptly.

Brent Atkinson was added as a PMC member on 2 Sep 2012.

The last release was Continuum 1.3.8, on 18 Sep 2011.

Still no movement on the branding requirements, which will be updated with
the next release.

We have not added any new committers recently. The last committer was added 8
Dec 2010.

There has been some recent activity around getting the long awaited Continuum
1.4.1 release out the door.

The last release was Continuum 1.3.8, on 18 Sep 2011.

Still no movement on the branding requirements, which will be updated with
the next release.

We have not added any new committers or PMC members recently. The last
committer was added 8 Dec 2010, and the last PMC member was added on 17 Mar
2009.

20 Jun 2012 [Brett Porter]

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

Since reporting in May, progress towards the next release has remained slow.
One user is testing trunk to provide feedback about what is needed before it
should be released. There has been some early indication that the technical
issue we perceived as a release blocker may not be a problem after all.

Despite the quietness, we have the necessary PMC oversight to produce a
release when someone pushes that forward.

The project branding requirements and lack of DOAP file will be addressed in
the process of updating the site for the release.

16 May 2012 [Emmanuel Venisse / Doug]

Apache Continuum is an enterprise-ready continuous integration server with
features such as automated builds, release management, role-based security,
and integration with popular build tools and source control management
systems.

Continuum has been suffering from low development activity, with just a handful
of commits each quarter. A discussion was started to move the project to the
Attic, however this encouraged at least one committer and a user to volunteer to
help produce another release. Others have since stepped forward.

There are a large number of fixes that reside on trunk that are worth releasing,
and it has been reported to be very stable. Only one blocker needs to be worked
through before the release.

Though available time is infrequent, there appears to be enough PMC oversight
still present to do a release, and through that we can assess who is likely to
remain active, and if the others should be brought into the PMC to continue the
project.

The current chair has stated that he is not available for the position any
longer and will be standing down. A resolution to appoint a new chair has been
proposed for the meeting.

In other matters, the project branding requirements have not yet been completed.

* The Java Service Wrapper has moved to GPL for version 3.3.0+. Continuum uses
this wrapper but will be sticking with the 3.2.3 version.

19 Mar 2008 [Emmanuel Venisse / Bill]

This report for March is the first report since Continuum graduation
last month.

Continuum resources have been completely moved out of the Maven area.
The web site has moved to its final location (http://continuum.apache.org).
The svn repo has moved to its final location
(http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/continuum/).
The mailing lists has been moved too.

We are currently working on Continuum 1.2, which isn't planned yet.
Discussions are started about the next major version (2.0).

About cryptography, a review of http://www.apache.org/dev/crypto.html
has determined that Continuum does not have any reporting obligations
since it does not contain any cryptographic code under the ECCN 5D002
definition. Although Continuum might be used by developers with
cryptographic libraries, it is not "specially designed or modified for"
such a purpose.
