Apache Rave is a widgets-based, web-and-social mashup platform. ISSUES Low community activity. COMMUNITY Unfortunately, the slight rally in community has not been sustained throughout the quarter. COMMITTER/PMC CHANGES 08/29/13 - Dan Gornstein was added as a new committer & PMC member. RELEASES 01/07/14 - 0.23 released. ACTIVITY The last 3 months have been extremely quiet in terms of list and development activity. We are going to make one last call to the developer and users lists before recommending the attic within the next quarter.

New contributors to the list are being encouraged to contribute more. The existing community needs to expand efforts to engage new individuals. COMMITTER/PMC CHANGES 02/17/15 - Stanton Sievers was added as a new committer & PMC member. RELEASES 01/07/14 - 0.23 released. ACTIVITY The list activity saw an increase in traffic and the community has laid out a path forward. Little progress has been made against it, but at this point, it would be prudent to see the year through and if there is no significant traction, re-evaluate the project's status.

COMMITTER/PMC CHANGES 08/29/13 - Dan Gornstein was added as a new committer & PMC member. RELEASES 01/07/14 - 0.23 released. ACTIVITY A large number of patches were submitted and integrated into the codebase to further the Angular JS front-end. The community is now working through the major overhaul. This work is proceeding at a slow pace due to lower activity.

COMMUNITY We held a community meetup and hackathon at ApacheCon NA that was attended by most of the active committers. Members of the community plan on attending Apache BarCamp Boston in May. RELEASES 03/12/13 - 0.20.1 was released to address CVE-2013-1814 02/14/13 - 0.20 was released 01/16/13 - 0.19 was released ACTIVITY Activity in the last reporting period has increased over the period prior to it. Most of the work and discussions are related to simplification of all aspects of the software and were initiated by proposals that were the result of conversations held at ApacheCon. In March, a security vulnerability (CVE-2013-1814) was reported to the PMC for which a point release was made.

COMMUNITY At the last OSCON, July 2012, Apache Rave was present and represented by Matt Franklin. In addition, the OpenSocial Foundation sponsored a combined Rave & OpenSocial meet-up there as well. There will be two presentations about Rave on the upcoming ApacheCon Europe 2012, Sinsheim Germany * Integrating Social Apps with Content Driven Sites using Apache Rave and Spring HMVC (Ate Douma) * Mongo, it's all the Rave (Matt Franklin) COMMITTER/PMC CHANGES We've added two new committers and PMC members to the team: Kristen Legacy and Stan Drozdetski. RELEASES Since the last board report, three new Apache Rave releases were performed, 0.14, 0.15 and 0.16. ACTIVITY Development activity is currently spread out over three different areas: ongoing trunk development, a separate branch for refactoring the Rave persistence model, and a separate sandbox project to add content services integration to Rave. It is expected that in the upcoming weeks this separate branch and sandbox activities will get merged back into trunk. PRESS Nothing since last report. ACTIVITY The community has increased discussions regarding the roadmap and architecture enhancements. Work has been focused on the refactor of the model for extensibility. COMMUNITY A meetup has been scheduled for June 13th in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Additionally, a combined meetup with the Shindig community is in the planning stages for OSCON. A current frequent topic of discussion is the need for a 1.0 release roadmap. The community will expand on these activities to work toward a viable & agreed upon roadmap in the next couple of months. COMMUNITY The community has continued to be vibrant in the last month. We continue to see questions & contributions from new individuals & organizations. Apache Rave is A new WEb And SOcial Mashup Engine. It will provide an out-of-the-box as well as an extendible lightweight Java platform to host, serve and aggregate (Open)Social Gadgets and services through a highly customizable and Web 2.0 friendly front-end. Rave just entered incubation on 2011-03-01, this is our first board report. Mailing lists, SVN and user accounts have been created, Issue tracking (JIRA) and continuous integration (Jenkins) have been setup. All the three initial code donations have been provided and imported in SVN. Website creation and management is underway, using cms.apache.org, but currently still in staging only. Getting the website ready for publishing is high priority. Branding requirements will be taken care of together with the website. Discussion on creating and selecting a Rave logo is underway on the developer mailing list. The committers voted on and selected Maven as build engine for Rave. A basic Maven project is committed. Discussion about the new code base and features to implement has started. The project code base will be created from scratch, not be based on or directly incorporate the initial code donations. Under discussion on the developer list also is choice of development methodology and style. Next steps: * Get the Rave website ready for publishing, select a Rave logo and fulfill the branding requirements. * Reach out to the community and build up awareness of Apache Rave. * Proceed with building up the new code base and work towards a first (incubator) release.
