Community changes, past quarter: - Kimm King was added to the PMC on 2020-06-26 - Haoran Meng was added as committer on 2020-07-03 - Xiao Yu was added as committer on 2020-07-03 ## Project Activity: - We have released the bug fix release 4.1.1. - We have finished the new API for version 5.x and testing them now. - We have accepted donation from ElasticJob as subproject. - We began to maintain ElasticJob community for license and copyright issues and start to discuss new features. - One new PMC member and two committers joined us on this month, we have finished the vote. ## Community Health: Overall community health is good. The reason of GitHub statistics decreased because of we sharing energy to the subproject ElasticJob for the first Apache release.

The IP clearance has been sent to the incubator. ## Community Health: Overall community health is good. The reason of mailing list decreased 29% is after graduation, more contributors focus development tasks on GitHub, issues, pull requests and contributors are still increasing rapidly.
## Description: The mission of Apache ShardingSphere is the creation and maintenance of software related to a database clustering system providing data sharding, distributed transactions, and distributed database management ## Issues: There are no issues requiring board attention. ## Membership Data: Apache ShardingSphere was founded 2020-04-15 (22 days ago) There are currently 25 committers and 14 PMC members in this project. The Committer-to-PMC ratio is roughly 7:4. Community changes, past quarter: - No new PMC members (project graduated recently). - No new committers were added. ## Project Activity: Apache ShardingSphere just completed the release process for 4.0.1 and 4.1.0. 4.0.1 carrying a number of bug fixes; 4.1.0 contained a few new features. At this time, we are focusing on the big release of 5.x, this version contains some major shifts in thinking about the project - specifically, 5.x looks to achieve these goals: - Provide a micro and pluggable kernel to load features by java SPI. - Redesign API to adaptor new kernel. - Provide an independent SQL parser SDK. ## Community Health: Apache ShardingSphere still in the rapid develop mode, there are explosive growth for issues and pull requests because of Apache ShardingSphere become TLP.

ShardingSphere is an ecosystem of transparent distributed database middleware, focusing on data sharding, distributed transaction and database orchestration. ShardingSphere has been incubating since 2018-11-10. ### Three most important unfinished issues to address before graduating: 1. Doing podling name search now, the JIRA ticket here[1] 2. Clear issues which indicate by incubator status page[2] 3. Finished discussion about graduation and start to vote to TLP[3] [1] https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PODLINGNAMESEARCH-178 [2] https://incubator.apache.org/clutch/shardingsphere.html [3] https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r2272e5fb70044e07f8ff21e282d84ab88a 30eac6709a9d0981f6b2c1%40%3Cdev.shardingsphere.apache.org%3E ### Are there any issues that the IPMC or ASF Board need to be aware of? There is a user wall page[4] to show all user lists. The URL of page may generate confusion with apache powered by policy. We have already change the page url to [5]. Wen Ouyang, ZongLei Dong, Xiaofeng Jiang have been voted and joined as committer. There are 115 people to contribute codes to the main repo, there are 26 new contributors during last report. We are happy to see the community are growing up. Prepare for graduation, finished discussion mail list is [6]. The main resolved issues are: 1. Major contributors sign ICLA 2. Confirm PMC and committer list 3. IP Clearance for OpenSharding GitHub repo[7] 4. Remove author information in java code 5. Update incubator status site[8] [6] https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/r885653f36d76c9d842b52f0ba2576dd962 efd2e9a24acc03515c9e24%40%3Cdev.shardingsphere.apache.org%3E [7] https://github.com/OpenSharding [8] https://incubator.apache.org/clutch/shardingsphere.html ### How has the project developed since the last report? We have already moved some extension modules into Apache repo, and plan to transfer all of them soon. ### How has the community developed since the last report? 1. Individuals from different companies and communities have provided some patches to feed back ShardingSphere community. 4. Share a topic for Apache way and how to join ShardingSphere community in Apache meetup at Tsinghua University. 5. Finish Podling Maturity Assessment for ShardingSphere[2]. 6. Plan to establish a co-meetup with Apache DolphinScheduler(incubator) in Beijing at Dec 8th. There are 4.0.0-RC1 and 4.0.0-RC2. All licenses and checklist are fine. 2. There are other several related project on GitHub org in ShardingSphere ecosystem, before or during project joined the ASF incubator, such as extension modules, UI, benchmark and acceptance test, they were using ShardingSphere-* prefix in project name, which may cause brand issue. We are trying to fix these. All ShardingSphere-* have been renamed to OpenSharding-*, and all old releases with ShardingSphere- are declared for not apache release. We have already transfer benchmark and UI project to apache repo and plan to merge extension modules and acceptance test into Apache repo. 3. Another brand related issue is ShardingSphere in DockerHub, including some binary releases, which have been moved apache release versions to ASF Infra - https://hub.docker.com/r/apache/sharding-proxy All of these are only including the approved releases. Right now, the brand issues are under control, so we think board or IPMC may do not need do any actions for now. ### How has the community developed since the last report? 1. Yanan Zhao, Haisheng Sun, Guangyuan Wang and Qi Wang have been voted and joined as committer. 2. There are 74 people to contribute codes to the main repo, it increase pretty quickly. Release 4.0.0-RC2 last month, main feature is data encryption. 2. Setup benchmark report which can generate data every day to show performance status of ShardingSphere's changes. 3. Manage contributions for squash merge pull requests, forbidden push dev branch directly and setup code review procedure. 4. Merge donated Sharding-UI project to dev branch and planning to release it at 4.0.0-RC3. 5. Process donated auto scale up tool from community, processing dependencies and licenses now. ### How would you assess the podling's maturity? Given there lots of activity I would expect this report to have a lot more detail. A quick look at that stats, without explanation, suggests to me that this project is in trouble,. You have a large number of contributors, and outstanding pull request, but are not voting committers in. Please discuss with your mentors what the committer bar should be and what it means to be a committer.
